Patton’s basement has a rat in it! Can Tracy and the MCS ferret out this mole (not that other Mole)? It looks for the moment like Mr. Crime’s organization holds the advantage. That has to change!

Recalls the unfinished idea that Dick Locher had there for awhile of a mole in police HQ. Use to pull all kind of pranks on the cops, but the story just drifted off into oblivion after awhile…

It’s the chief, who is on the mayor’s payroll, who is on Mr. Crime’s payroll! Corruption runs deep in this city!

The Mr. Crime storyline is really taking off. This development is the last thing I would have expected but should have seen coming. Apparently Crime’s tentacles run deep, just like in the old days. Eventually we will learn exactly who Mr. Crime is, and it won’t be the original character. Feed us more, Mike!

Hold on, I just realized – BB Eyes referred to the “acquital” of Double-up’s case. However, it was not an acquital, it was dismissed. A case that has been dismissed for lack of evidence can be brought again if new evidence turns up – it is not the same thing as double jeopardy. At least, I think that is so – can anyone confirm this?

I haven’t seen this much speculation since the “Who Shot J.R.” days. Epic!

One more day with Mr Crime, as we learn a bit about Mumbles job. Then BLACKJACK appears Sunday.

Having evidence disappear like that could be a disastrous mistake on Panda’s part. If Tracy or one of his colleagues discover the loss, they will start digging immediately. And we all know what happens when Dick Tracy sinks his teeth into an investigation.

@corpcasselburyI agree. If DT smells a rat then he won’t stop until he knows. This is a great strip!

As a general matter, once “jeopardy” attaches, a dismissal granted by the court for insufficient evidence terminates jeopardy and bars further prosecution with one exception, if a case has been dismissed after a jury brings in a guilty verdict (not the case here). By contrast, re-prosecution is permitted and jeopardy continues against the defendant when a case is dismissed by the court at the defendant’s request for reasons other than sufficiency of the evidence. So Double-Up is home free, at least on the charges he was tried for. (He could, for example, be a co-conspirator in the murder of his ex-henchman, with Abner K. being the main culprit.)
