LOL, that is exactly what my cats would do! They would be so insistent, that I wouldn’t get any peace until they checked it out. They were content with the lid, fortunately.
When I was a kid, I had two cats that would beg like dogs for the last few bites of spaghetti. I used to put the plate down for them and they would go to town.
My 3 cats watch as I leave the pantry and only follow if the can in my hand is tuna fish. The do recognize the cans. Tuna is the only thing they eat that comes in a can and they are not interested in anything else.
Our house too Mr. Jim. I consider myself more of a dog person than a cat person, but our cat has been trained to stay off of the counter. She would not go up on the counter any more than our dog would drink out of the toilet. Dog had to be trained too BTW. Final note, while Ludwig is beloved by many, I don’t see the point of making so many strips revolve around the cat. I can get used to it, what other choice do I have? Oh yeah, A and J now joins Garfield and Heathcliff as far as my comics collection is concerned.

My cat can turn down a can of Yellowfin Tuna and Shrimp in fish gravy to eat some plain pasta or some canned peaches.

My cat would have been up on the counter, sniffing the can as it opened.

It’s not just your house. But few cats pay a whole lot of attention to house rules when the provider of food is out of the room.

Oh I have to do this at my house as well. This morning I had to show the cats that I was toasting a bagel and having a banana. Honestly, kitties, lol.

My cat does this every time I open a can. He has to know what it is. I don’t get it either because he refuses to eat canned food.

Today’s cats don’t respond to can openers, all their food is in pull tab cans.

Our cats did the same thing. They learn the sound of even manual can openers. They come running.

Cats can be taught to stay off counters etc. I know they do it when no one is around. But they are smart enough to know the difference.

OMG I do this w/all my cats. Just let them sniff & they’ll leave it alone (sometimes!)
