Um, I once got into the driver’s seat and looked up- and there was youngest daughter, in her car seat, sitting on the hood and looking quizzically at me.
Sleep deprivation and parenting… one frequently results from the other, but they don’t mix well.
I’ve read news stories of people putting their kids, car seat & all, on the roof of the car and starting to drive off that way. People with driver’s licenses should be made to get a “parenting license” too.
Saw a headline just today about parents who watched the evening news and discovered they had left one of their kids at Chuck E. Cheese. Jeeze, they must have a bunch to not notice one is missing.
Many years ago, I was a courier for the Pentagon. One task was to pick up classified material from Congressional offices. I put a box of highly classified material on the roof of my station wagon so I could open the door. My colonel was waiting for me when I got back to the office. I did have to take a two-week refresher in security procedures…
I set my wallet on the roof of the car once and drove away. Of course, it fell off somewhere. I was home, calling to cancel my credit card when someone knocked on the door. It was a man with my wallet. He apologized for not coming sooner, but said when he went to pick it up, another car hit it, so it took him a lot of time to gather everything. And, he brought back everything…down to the pennies. I tried to give him a reward. He refused it, even refused to tell me his name. It is great to know there are still good people in this world.
That’s right! Leaving your coffee on the roof of your car is just like leaving your children on the roof of your car! I’d miss the coffee though. What?!?

I’m sure if she had had kids, they’d be safe in the hatchback.
