If we got rid of the TV sets in every room that “there’s something else to do” we’d have no TVs at all… and, no, we’re not newlyweds…. I’m 60, she’s 54!!
On the subject of TVs in the bedroom, I have a TV (analog, alas, so this feature was lost to me when they went digital) that I could set to turn on at a particular time in the morning. So I used it in the same way that I would use a clock radio, but I had pictures as well as sound when it woke me up.

More to the point (of the ’toon), he realized he was just hypnotized by the infomercials and it WAS time to shut down.
