Brad: "Toni's made it clear she doesn't want to talk about marriage. I respect her wishes" TJ: "Oh. So you're waiting 'til she says, "Ok, you can ask me now"?" TJ: "Brad, my plan for April Fool's day is perfect! You can ask Toni to marry you with NO RISK!" Brad: "My plan" and "No risk" don't belong in the same sentence, TJ!" TJ: "The way you're goin' "Brad" And "Toni" won't either"

I can’t believe I’m typing this, but TJ has a valid point.

this plan is leading to an Epic Fail
Orion-13 over 12 years ago
Perhaps Brad will get a brain, buy Toni some flowers and take her out to a nice dinner and apologize for forgetting Valentine’s Day with something nice like “It’s just EVERY day with you in my life is special.” and pretend TJ never spoke.

In the last panel, we see the light turn on in Brad’s, sometimes, thick skull. Brad needs to remember the old saying, that a faint heart never won a fair lady. /// A strong woman, which Toni is, will oft times say no in order to test the deepness of the love of her suitor. /// Winning a woman’s heart is sometimes akin to chopping down a mighty Oak tree. You take that first whack and you only see a tiny nick in the trunk. But if you keep swinging. The tree/your beloved will eventually fall at your feet!

Brad and Toni have so much in common anyway, it’s opposites that are supposed to attract. Let’s vote for Brad and Ann. (Early April Fool) I wouldn’t wish her on anyone, not even Dirk.
Amandaanyaellis over 12 years ago
Eh. They’ll drag it out forever, but he’ll ask her and they’ll get married.
whayle over 12 years ago
Brad is going to ruin it if he does this. It took Toni long enough just to admit she liked him, then to admit she loved him. She has had a hard life! She lost her parents; her brother is a deadbeat. She had that Dirk thing. Did anyone see that movie Bed of Roses with Christian Slater and Mary Stuart Masterson? She cautiously started liking him, and WAY WAY WAY too soon he proposed and pretty much ruined things. I think they got back together, but it was just never the same. Brad needs to rent that movie!
ZacBSM over 12 years ago
I think it is mostly true for the guys than the women. In this case with Toni, she is gun-shy about it due to her abusive relationship with Dirk. She doesn’t trust herself when it comes to men – after all she hooked up with Dirk and tolerated his abuse. She now doesn’t trust herself and distances herself from the idea of committing herself to a guy. I believe she will be content with just coasting on dating and living alone – which Brad doesn’t want. I believe at one point, all of their conflicts will come to a head – either break up or move forward to an engagement. Brad will have a breaking point when Toni insists on coasting on a dating status for too long.

See, now this would be cute! Ask her out for April 1, and show up with roses and candy and a big stuffed bear. Make it as cute but cheesy as possible. But don’t even MENTION valentines day. When she asks “what’s all this??” He should reply with the April Fools thing. She would crack up and her heart would melt!!

Id love to see the two get married, but proposing marriage is a life time commitment, and that can really scare a person. Besides, letting the two get married will make this strip more mature, and that would mean luann is going to have to age a little. Not good if this strip is about being a teenager.

Brad has been involed with Toni long enough to know that she doesn’t play games but means what she says. TJ does NOT have a valid point – it is only his assumption. One gains points by RESPECTING a woman’s wishes, not by trying to impose your own thoughts on her.

Oooh-hoooo…Mr. Greg, this is GOOD. This is going to be a good, dramatic story arc. Brad, Toni, and TJ are my favorite characters out of the whole bunch.
rmleon over 12 years ago
When was the last time Toni said she wasn’t ready to discuss marriage? It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Maybe she’s ready now. Just ask her whether she’s ready to discuss it. Have a straightforward discussion, be a grown-up.

Brad, stop that thinking I see you doing in the last panel. You’re just not good at it. You can see TJ’s plan is stupid, so you’re trying to come up with one of your own. That’s almost as bad. You’re thoughtful, but you haven’t got a romantic bone in your body. Don’t try to fake it.

I hope if Brad goes through with this ‘plan’ that when he sits down to that April Fool’s Dinner with Toni that she says, “I hope this isn’t one of TJ’s crazy schemes.”

Hey PUPPET!
When and “IF” You and Toni EVER Get married are You STILL gonna have the Jackass hangin’ around?
I mean, is he gonna be under your bed during the wedding night spouting out unwanted advice?
Ya got two TWO Umbilicals to CUT: The one to Your Mom and the other to Old Smiley.
A better idea is Kick TJ OUT and Get Toni to Move in. LIVE with he r for 6 months and REALLY get to KNOW her BEFORE you get married.
And DARN the “Blue Noses” who disaprrove of things like THAT.
There. I SAID it.

This strip is getting way too serious. And so are the postings. It’s supposed to be funny, and about a teen-aged girl and her adventures and mishaps. Some of the posters have it right; the strip needs to get back to Luann.

I’m pretty nervous about this. TJ makes a valid point, but that doesn’t mean that Brad has to go along with the whole plan…. whatever happens, if they break up, to say I’d be peeved and sad would be an understatement.

1) If she accepts, will that be an April Fool’s joke?2) HInt to all the guys— April Fools Day is great fun to play pranks on your pals. The rubber-band-papper-clip bug-in-the-envelope trick is as good now as ever. But do NOT mess with serious questions, like marriage or religion or politics, as a prank. It’s demeaning to everyone involved.

The problem with TJ’s plan is: Brad pops the question, Toni is at first stunned, she doesn’t respond immediately, then what does Brad do? If he blurts out “April Fools!” and Toni is still seriously considering his proposal, then Brad screws up BIG TIME! Forget about his Valentine’s Day miss…
Loki Laufeyson over 12 years ago
Seems that many of this group has forgotten about this remark fromToni back when Brad was still serving up “slop” at WW before he got reinstated at the firehouse. Obviously Brad didn’t hear it, but had he been a fly on the wall back then, he’d have no reservations now— http://www.gocomics.com/luann/2011/11/26 ……..
Look, if Toni thought this way when her man was working one of the lowest jobs out there— then Brad has no worries about her feelings for him.

sunsohot over 12 years ago
uh oh….I don’t like Brad’s doubting look in the last frame.
ZacBSM over 12 years ago
I am not sure if it was the guilt for her role in getting fired at WW that prompted her to offer her job to Brad….I wonder if Brad actually proposes…will she, once again, balk? Get angry for being pressured? She told her Captain in confidence – she never said such thing to Brad. Was it her trump card to convince the captain to give her job to Brad? Many possibilities to why she did it.
yuggib over 12 years ago
Apparently, no one has thought of the old adage, “A woman has the right to change her mind.” I go along with that thought, and maybe it is about time Brad did a serious proposal. As for the comment that Brad + Toni = LuAnn having to “grow up,” in terms of the strip, where have you been? LA HAS been growing up throughout the time this strip has existed. Look at the leader strip “Banner” for this ’toon. It shows LA through mer maturation/ development. I think it would be cool if B=T happened soon, followed by L+? (possibly Quill) in about 4 to 5 years. Just think of Mom and Dad and Grandkids and all the comidic situations that would entail!

“No risk” until Toni says “yes” and follows that up with “April fools!” Anxious to see how this plays out.
chicken 33 over 12 years ago
Forget April Fool date. Just tell her you just driven to buy her a ring for if she was ready, but knowing how she felt, changed your mind about giving tp her on Valentine Day because you didn’t want to pressure her.
Chuck373 over 12 years ago
Yeah. That’s what most of us would do. But we are talking about Brad. For some strange reason he is very suseptable to suggestions from TJ. Especially when it comes to matters of relationships. Hard to understand since TJ’s never had one. And he’s not all that bright. The reason you’ve never seen him or TJ sit down to a game of chess is you have to be thinking two or three moves ahead. They don’t posess that quality.
Chuck373 over 12 years ago
I don’t believe it was covered in the strip, but I believe that Brad has no idea that it was TJ who talked Toni into confronting Ann, causing Brad to lose his job. And it was TJ who talked Toni into threatening to quit her job. Time for TJ to wise up and but out. His great ideas always involve throwing someone else under the bus. The only “no risk” is to himself.

OK, Lord Hearteater, I’ll hold off, though I was going to comment that perhaps Brad had lost Toni missing Val’s day.

A lot of couples date happily for years without thinking of marriage – they need to think about what works for them.

So if Brad goes along with it and pops the question; and when she says “yes” – it might be HER April Fools joke on Brad…. or, she might seriously say yes ! This would be good timing for a June Wedding.
