I know a short poem about Jack & Jill, $1.25 & $2.50 & water… If I submit it I will end up in the same boat that Mabrndt just got out of. Suffice it to say that it is a very nice painting and looks like something out of early Americana.
Enlarged available from here. This has the English title. This has several paintings with that same title (3 different ones by the same artist), but not this one; perhaps something gets lost in the translation. So far, 2 works by this artist have appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog.
Thanks, Mabrndt! Much better to see detail in enlargements; I could see ceramic pitcher in girls’ hands and that boy is pouring from pail, even though he’s looking at her.
I’ve a question about this classic old nursery rhyme.and the illustrations that normally depict it … have any of you ever seen a well on top of a hill? I lived on a farm the first 18 years of my life and saw many, many wells … not one of them was on top of a hill.

He’s the local childcare expert, and he’s telling her how NOT to bath the baby.

So, we now might surmise, a good pair of hiking shoes could’ve saved them.
