Last couple years, SS did not increase because “cost of living” had not increased. However, health care deduction went up. If you make nothing, there are all kinds of assistances. However, as your earnings increase, so does your income until, at a certain point, loss of assistances outweighs your actual income, until you finally start making enough that your actual earnings, after taxes, that your "take home finally goes up.
There was an article one time at an office:“Boss, I need a 25c/hr decrease in my wages?”“What, I just gave you a 50c/hr decrease last month!”“I appreciate that. I now get reduced rent. But with another 25c/hr decrease, my family will be eligible for the free sauna and pool!”

And the govmt makes a big fuss over a $50/mo increase in SSA after 3 years while property tax keeps increasing (along with food, gas, repair costs etc
