The whole function of a salesman is to close the sale. Half truths, outright lies, spreading confusion— no problem. Not really any different than a politician when you think about it.
I’m holding on to my 2004 Focus as long as I can. I’ve only replaced the battery and belts and tire store told me my original tires are still OK last month; keeping it in garage and combining trips helps a lot.
i would never buy a car from an individual. what if your neighbor is selling a car for $1000 and a car dealer is selling the same car for $5000. looks like your neighbor has the better deal, right? but dealers selling used cars are required to have the Carfax available, your neighbor isn’t. a dealer will also often have a used car warrenty available. so you buy the cheaper car, and then find out you have to put $6000 worth of work into it. no longer the better deal! That’s why I bought my 2007 Accord from CarMax.

Well he’s an idiot for not having a note pad and calculator. Even if they didn’t come on his smart phone.

Actually, he’s an idiot for not going to Claire’s dad for a car. Doesn’t he sell them?

And definitely have your financing set up before you get to the dealer.
