Reading these comments, I get the impression that ten-year-old girls don’t imagine fantastical creatures. At that age my fantasies were peopled (creatured?) by archetypal entities like the Allverine, a doglike brute with silvery skin that could eat ANYTHING with his retractable sabre teeth and grinding digestive discs; a loping deerlike/kangaroo-like creature who talked incessantly; a villain dressed like a WWI pilot; and a meek kidlike creature who became hardened and worthy to claim the kingdom after great tribulation. (I alluded to all this in another site.) All that was during the mid-to-late 1940’s.
