Transcript:
Shannon: "You have funny hair. And you look mean"
Ann: "You should talk"
Shannon: "I don't like her, TJ"
TJ: "Then you can be in our club!"
Ann: "Charming child, clearly neglected. She needs to learn some manners"
Toni: "You should talk"
Round one ended in a draw. I’m still holding out for Ann being Shannon’s long-lost mother. How did Ann know that Shannon was “clearly neglected?” Does the big, bad boss have a Tragic Past perchance?
(When I hit reply, your name’s not showing up at the top of my comment; don’t know why.) You’re probably right. Still, I do enjoy getting wrapped up in crazy ideas that would never actually be written into Luann. That’s part of the fun for me.
…
And it has been a while since I was inspired to write a nonsensical prediction loosely based on what was actually going on in Luann, managing to pull together multiple arcs into one load of crazy.
…
Mainly, I miss the pump-cheese. And I hope you remember that tired old joke, or I’m gonna feel like a moron for having written that.
Interesting composition today. Although only 2 panels, it reads almost as 3, with the TJ/Shannon vignette a virtual panel. Also nice symmetry in the Annie Awful/Toni Daytona remarks. Also the dark/light, evil/good contrasts. Very artful.
A good manager would have given the child (with the adult’s permission) a treat when the child first remarked on how she looked mean, instead of hurling an insult. Annie Awful just proved Shannon right. SCORE Shannon 1, Ann Awful 0
Jonah should appear, but I doubt he will. The strip tends to be very stingy on characters. We saw one week of Jonah, then fade out..Yet we have endless Gunther, If any new character comes, it will be brain-challenged Ox and more repetitive Gunther stuff, I fear..Quill seems destined to fade. Delta is getting dim. Bernice has become a mere conversational counterfoil.
Aw, man – am I sorry you went with the baseball metaphors! Now I need brain bleach to get rid of the mental image of TJ trying to get to second base with Ann. Noooooo…..
Shannon is a child. They are very perceptive and are too inexperienced to hold back their opinions, and they do have them.
Ann, cannot compete at that level, she’s used to manipulating adults. She’s way out of her league and Shannon is going to give her a lesson in brutal opinionated warfare.
Ann will attack everyone else around Shannon in frustration because attacking Shannon would clearly be child-abuse, and that has some really bad results if she does.
Well, Shannon is neglected by her dad… But that’s not entirely her dad’s fault, I’m pretty sure.. I wouldn’t be surprised if Shannon was Ann’s Daughter, her Dad and Ann would be capable of doing that.
Oh boy, I hope Toni ACTUALLY hits Ann this time for that remark. I know I’d want to if someone said that about any of my sisters or even my niece or nephew.
I see it now, Ann is Shannon from the future and she’s trying to change her past..Wait, she’s trying to make things better?Screw that, she’s trying to get her share.
Dave, you noticed Toni is a member of the Order of 8 Button Blouses. Congratulations and welcome to the secret underworld of Luanngelical Mystery. Your first assignment is to figure out who will be the first character in this strip to say, “bite me.”
Kids are painfully honest. Especially in comics. Ever read Dennis the Menace? Every time his parents have friends over, he says things without thinking. My favorite is when he gave his mom’s attractive friend a fan and said, “You might need this. My dad said you are hot.” LOL! Kids do not have filters. They are not necessarily being manipulative. My son has no problem telling me I am mean and that he is not my friend anymore. Even when I don’t let him have a cookie for breakfast. (OK, maybe he was being manipulative in that case. But he still didn’t get the cookie!)
I gotta admit, Shannon does have Funny Hair too.. I know a girl who looks and acts like Shannon..She was so annoying yesterday, I told her to get out of My car.
All aboard……The Ship of Fools has set sail again. I’d rather hang out with Rosa. She’s cuddly and open to a normal relationship, with a dash of romance.
My own HS years were very complex and I still cannot stand to be with any of those folks. I was not the type to fit in with any then or now. So glad that I made my own career and future.
We’re being here, but SHannon had our “grown-up monster” pegged before most of the cast did. Tell Shannon if she’s not careful she’ll grow up to be Ann Eiffel.

For a neglected, ill-mannered child, Shannon is amazingly perceptive!

I would hardly call shannon defeat. She still clicked with TJ.

But this arc shows some promise IMO

I keep thinking Ann is TJ’s project, and it might be Love, not War. Is she too old for TJ?

I don’t think Awful has funny hair. Don’t get that one at all.

Is my man, Knute, the only happy character in this comic strip? These folks carry a lot of emotional baggage.
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
I bet Ann’s just petty enough to try to score off Shannon by trying taking that crown away from her. Prepare the wrath to come!
