I believe margueritem has it right. Blackjack did not threaten Tracy; he requested to be given a chance to take a shot at Tracy’s fedora. And, being a good shot, he will hit it, and it will go on the Wall of Fame. And then he will be happy to surrender. Remember, he’s crazy! —His gang, however, might pose a separate problem….

We know that Blackjack is a crack shot – could he kill two birds by one stone by getting Tracy’s hat into the hall of fame AND escape by rupturing the hydrant?

Just to prove how unobservant I am in real life—are there any red fire hydrants? All I remember seeing are yellow ones.

If he misses, he’ll have to break out of jail and try again!

Back in the late 1980’s I collected reprints of old DT strips in comic book form by Blackthorn. They ceased publishing when they reached the Moon Maid era. Since then a series of hard book texts have also published reprints. I’d like to know if anyone else collected the Blackthorn comics and what are they doing. Are you keeping them or getting rid of them and replacing them with the books by IDW. I bought the hard books for the years Blackthorn didn’t reprint.

I’m beginning to like the Sam/Fritz Ann story better! That, I can relate!

I think Blackjack will be proud just to have his bullet hole enshrined in Tracy’s hall of fame. I agree, the gang is going to be a separate problem. Could cost BJ his life.

Blackjack’s a true fan. He just wants to be represented on Tracy’s hat wall of fame. More great story planning on Mike’s part. Team Tracy reminded us of the hat wall back on 2/3/12. I suspect it was in anticipation of this storyline.

How’d DT and Sam manage to come up with snow mobiles in time to give chase/

436rge, I’ve not only collected all the Blackthorne material but various other collections as well, including the Spec Productions run. Anything Tracy is collectible as far as I’m concerned although I think the IDW reprints are among the best of the lot. Hoping eventually to see the Curtis/Staton strips join in eventually as this has been some great stuff!

Currently they have ALL of Gould’s work in print.. Sam’s comment had me laughing out loud!Blackjack knows he’s a great shot, but still wouldn’t risk hitting Tracy.My worry is that Sam or Fritz Ann might shoot Blackjack.(Yeah, I love this loon – he’s a cross between Willie Sutton and Bat-Mite!)

I’ve been at this even longer. I kept the complete Dell/Harvey series that began in the 1940s, added Spec and Blackthorn, got the Pacific Comics Club reprints, keep up with the hardbound books now appearing, and more. It’s a hobby; so everything is collectible. Let my kids worry about what to do with them—later.

Will Tracy’s hat on the fire hydrant work. Stay tuned perhaps we will learn from this fast(?) moving story.

What I’m seeing is that “OMG” look Blackjack is giving when Tracy actually does what he asks. Is that out of surprise, or what he’s seeing under that hat?

Tracy is being very trusting here.

Now if Blackjack was a Fearless Fosdick fan, he could have split the bullet on the fireplug and got Tracy and the hat with each half!
