Then I suspect steeplechasing is flat out of the question.

OMG I had the exact same conversation with my horse this afternoon!

OK, looks like GatoCat has given us a challenge…..What rhymes with people and steeple? It’s not as hard as orange, purple or silver to rhyme is it? At least people has one rhyme..

Pony has flights of fancy as wide and deep and high and fine as she does…slightly different…wonderful perspective on the tightrope’s abyss below…vultures and open New Mexico type space…thanks for morphing my reality-outlook this morning…

It’s called “steeplechase” because a couple of centuries ago in rural England they used to run riding races between villages where the competitors raced from the church (steeple ) of one village to the next. You knew where you had to go because the steeple was visible from quite a distance when you were riding across fields.

it is a safe bridge…a bunch of eagle scouts built it, right before they were shipped out to fight in south vietnam.

I often feel the way Lucy does.

Ha! I’m originally from Indiana, and there are covered bridges dotted across the state because horses don’t like normal bridges. :-)

I’ve long had Lucy’s “respect” for bridges. Check out the first Tacoma Narrows bridge, named “Galloping Gerty”. OR the “earthquake resistance” of the Oakland Bay Bridge! (or other examples of our crumbling infrastructure) As to the “height problem”, Royal Gorge. Horse sense may indeed be better than “human sense” any more.

Becky with a little coaxing by Rufus and Joel could make it across that bridge even pulling a wagon load of junk. (See Gasoline Alley).

With hands clasped together (fingers inside). Here is the church, here is the steeple, here is the door, AND here are all the people!.

That bridge really is way too high for Lucy to cross. Danae should simply lead her down that steep cliff and over that raging river to the other side.

Hmmm. Never knew that about steeplechases. ‘round here, it’s just a way to keep from getting lost out on the prairies: hike up a hill and head for the steeples.
