Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for April 13, 2012
Transcript:
Mom: Alice, would you like to learn to play a musical instrument someday? Alice: Oh, boy, yeah! Mom: Grandma thinks she has a piano she isn't using in her spare room. She'll give it to us if she can find it! Alice: Wow! Cool! A piano! Mom: I used to play the piano. I might starting taking lessons again. Alice: I love pianos! When you put some cats and mice in a piano, they play this great song! Mom: Really? Alice: I saw it on TV!

Wow, hope Grandma can find the piano…

Maybe Grandma could turn Big Shirley loose inside the piano, along with the cats and mice!

I hope Grandma can find the colors for today’s strip.

Finding a piano shouldn’t be too hard, if it’s really there. The love between Alice and Madeline (as expressed in panel 4) is very touching!

Hope it’s more piano than forte.

Love the black and white strip! Alice and Mom are having a moment. Sweet – even with cats and mice!

I love the boogie-woogie riff in the middle! I can still whistle it. Followed by “Chopsticks.”

marg, I’m kind of hoping Grandma doesn’t find the piano. The family Von Trap they’re not.

Grandma must be a “hoarder” if she can’t find her piano!

I was thinking the same thing. How much stuff does a spare room have in it, to loose a piano?.Umm…. I think I have a piano somewhere, now where did I put that?

No color? Is this a rerun?
lightningsnowstorm over 12 years ago
why don’t you put the mice in Petey’s oboe? Or let the cat destroy Timmy Fretwork’s banjo?the oboe is possible to stand, but the banjo? Great strip today, I wonder what Alice will do. BTW, why isn’t there any color today?

I believe Alice is thinking of The Aristocats movie, either that or Cinderella or something?

As usual, the dialogue is every bit as good as the art. “She’ll give it to us if she can find it!” Fantastic.

Interesting comments about no color/black & white today – I’m looking at this at 1 PM PDT and it’s in full color.
