It would literally KILL Burl and Joy to say something nice or be just the tiniest bit sensitive! And I do not believe that they have ever been to NYC or have ever sprung for tix on (or off) Broadway. Never in a thousand million years would they part with the cash. Maybe they saw a video of it.
Wow, they could tell, could they? Mikie you’re probably right…. a video, maybe a bit on Sixty Minutes…. naw, they wouldn’t watch a show with news stories in it…Maybe there was a TV commercial for the Broadway show….. just long enough for them to notice the dancers weren’t 4th graders.Marg… I noticed his shocked little face.I hope his parents are supportive enough to explain that not everyone is like the Pennys. When I was his age, I was told grown-ups were always right. How sad if he thinks that.
Even Dale seems to be rolling his eyes. And creepy Jerry would ♥ creepy Paul Williams.(Sorry, sorry, if you ♥ him too…. something about him just bothers me.)BTW it’s a strange coincidence, but I went to a high school musical just last weekend.Hadn’t been to one in years, but a teacher friend wanted to go see My Fair Lady.It was great! I think kids get more professional training now than when I was in high school. Of course, we also had to take time out to feed the dinosaurs and stuff.
One more thing…. honest….I meant to thank you, x_Tech, for the compliment yesterday! No matter how it’s meant, for anyone to imply that I’m channeling any little feeble bit of Gracie Allen makes me happy.:)Tomorrow I’m going to make time to listen to that episode. Thanks!
Good Morning all! I imagine they might have gone to a production of Cats that was off in the suburbs (at a dinner theatre possibly. When I was in HS there were a few of the Catholic schools that did some decent productions (If I remember correctly mostly Eugene O’Neil). The only professional plays I’ve seen were in Chicago, as I’ve never been to NY.
One day in the future, the neighbors will ask Timmy why they no longer see the Pennys. Timmy will tell them he moved them to a nice assisted living center in Florida. Then Timmy will go back to tending those beautiful roses he’s managed to grow so well on those two raised beds in the back yard.

Joy, do you mean to tell us if you hadn’t seen the “Broadway Play” you wouldn’t have known those were kids in Timmy’s class production?

This one struck a true chord of melancholy with me. The comments are SO VERY hurtful. Poor Timmy.

We can only hope that Timmy and his older sister grow up to do better than these folks and (as megonow suggested) have a life after all of this
