Ann: "Look at my finer, TJ" TJ: "Um... Ok..." Ann: "It's still swollen from when Toni's little niece-brat bit me! And it's NUMB. That urchin made it hard for me to hold a pen!" TJ: "Can you hold your tongue?" Ann: "I'm going to sue Toni for permanent nerve loss" TJ: "Really? Seems like you have lots of nerve"

I think TJ’s getting ready to drop the hammer on her head!
SideshowStarlet over 12 years ago
Ann always seems to confide in TJ, even though they both made it clear that they can’t stand each other. What’s up with that?
…
I think TJ’s gonna offer an ultimatum: if Ann tries to take legal action against Toni, he quits.
ZacBSM over 12 years ago
Someone in here called on it – that Ann would sue Toni for failing to control Shannon and causing injury to Ann. See if it’ll go that far in LuannUniverse….

Does Luann just make cameo’s on Sunday’s? I thought this strip was named for Luann the title player in this strip….

Oh boo-hoo Ann, whine over a little bite from a kid.
Ottodesu over 12 years ago
That was one very expensive paper hat that she never recovered.
Ottodesu over 12 years ago
She assaults a child and then expects compensation? Would love to see this go to court, Shannon could use the proceeds from the countersuit.BTW, Toni is probably not her legal guardian.

Finally, took 20minutes for all the ads to load before todays strip. Great strip, but horrible ads, the music is too loud, and the commentator too quiet to hear, and I still can’t find the duck.

That’s what you get for trying to take 2¢ worth of cardboard from a 5-year old child, Ms. Awful.

Not to forget Judge (Alan) Parker, who very seldom makes an appearance in his own comic strip!
DockoftheBay over 12 years ago
If Ann was injured by Toni’s niece she should immediately seek medical attention for it . The question of legal liability depends on the circumstances that precipitated the assault, Since she put her hand on the child first, her case for damages is similar to the liability of someone who puts their hand in the mouth of a dog and then gets bitten. It will be determined in a trial who was to blame. Of course witnesses would be called and i don’t know how an unbiased witness can be found in this situation,
Sisyphos over 12 years ago
I didn’t realize Annie Awful was so stupid, as well as awful. A lawsuit against a five-year-old on whom she laid hands is as close as there is to a sure loser. But TJ’s teasing will just have the effect of egging her on. Maybe that’s what he intends….

Whatever happened to Luann?
Namrepus over 12 years ago
Luann’s last weekday appearance was April 7. The last time she was a central character in a story arc was January 2-7.

Why do I get the feeling Toni and Shannon are right behind her? That being said, I do think Anne respects TJ more than she wants to admit. She also shows actual vulnerabitlity to him, and only occasional ’sexual vulnerability.
SwimsWithSharks over 12 years ago
So what’s all this about fingers and tongues? Permanent nerve loss in her finger? A variation of “the Stranger”.
Mordock999 over 12 years ago
Hey Ann?
When you talk to Your Lawyer, You MIGHT want to add “Loss of Hearing” to the lawsuit, because Your “employee” just insulted You TWICE and You HAVEN’T Reacted.
Oh, Wait. Maybe You just want Sympathy and You want ’Ole Smiley to “KISS the Boo-Boo”?
In THAT case, I THINK I’m gonna be SICK…..,

Attorney: TJ, did you witness the event in question?TJ: I did your honor.Attorney: Could you tell us how it happened?TJ: The little girl was in to make a purchase when my employer snarled at the typer, made contemptous comments and stuck her finger in the child’s face and the little girl defended herself from the hostile action and attitude.

Good thoughts.
jebjayman over 12 years ago
Ann is in love with TJ, but doesn’y recognize it, because she doesn’t know what love is. She turns to him for sympathy; she turns to him for approval. She’s deaf to his insults and blind to his flaws. He could definitely take advantage of her, if he chose to do so. She’d enjoy it if he just took her in his arms and held her close; then afterwards, accuse him of sexual assault.

Does no one else sense a tense flirtation coming through here? I predict TJ/Ann relationship within a month or two.

@Ted Borgerding:Ya they already have a relationship. A pretty bad one.

With the way our court system seems to work Ann will win, she will get her 15 min of fame on all the talk shows, appeals court will over turn the award, all of the fast food restaurants will have to add notification’s that their “crowns” may cause injury, Brad Toni & Shannon will be barred from Weenie World, TJ and Ann will start dating, etc. Hollywood will eventually make a movie out of it, either Hallmark or Lifetime will air it probably on Mother’s Day

Such profound discussions over a comic strip……..
tommysmo over 12 years ago
Luann’s just not interesting any more. The other characters are more interesting.
Harman Toshiba over 12 years ago
I have to agree (somewhat) with SueB1863 and Tommysmo, there’s only so much Evans can do with the “problems of a teenage girl” theme. (Having had two teenage girls of my own, their problems aren’t as interesting/humorous as they think they are.)
I think the strength of this strip comes from having an ensemble of interesting characters. Almost Doonesbury sans politics.
JimT8 over 12 years ago
Or Greg does not want Luann to grow up. She and Quill do not have a future. She is frozen in time, which restricts her to high school realities.

Like luann comic usually but….. um where’s luann? Would like to se a storyline focus on her at some point… don’t really think she’s had more than one all year. I am not exaggerating, look back, these other storylines have month long stretches, sometimes more.
tubgrape over 12 years ago
Now, look at this! T. J. is falling into a position to be truly the knight in shining armor. He will ultimately save Toni from a lawsuit, Toni will begin to see that T.J. is very smart, consideraste and caring of HER, and will begin to see what a goof (albiet nice guy!) her present boyfriend seems to be. I really think Brad’s in trouble!
tubgrape over 12 years ago
As for Luann herself not being in the comic strip, she is the ANCHOR character to which everything returns. I truly think that this TONI/BRAD/T.J. subplot is great and I can’t tear myself away. I used to snort at soaps on TV. Now, look at me!
JohhnyB over 12 years ago
Solution to petty lawsuits: if you choose to sue, it MUST go to jury. If you win , you win. But if you lose (and here’s the catch) you must pay both sides attorney fees AND compensate the person you sue in an amount that is reasonable for their time & trouble.
And – like traffic court – you must put up the payments/fees in advance, you know, BEFORE the trial.
This will guarantee a drop in petty lawsuits by the millions…

Ann sue Toni? Not in this lifetime.
Guilty Bystander over 12 years ago
I keep thinking of how Judge Judy often asks people claiming they were injured, “So did you go see a doctor? Let me see a medical report.” If Anne doesn’t seek medical attention for this, she’s going to have a hard time proving injury in a courtroom (if she gets a competent judge).
legionbuck43 over 12 years ago
First off, she can’t sue Toni directly, she would have to go after the brother, for it’s HIS kid…and second, if ANY lawyer took this case he’d be ridiculed by the rest of the Bar Association !

Hey Ann, need some cheese with that whine? Absolutely love all the characters in the strip. Keeps it interesting and varied.

see, TJ missed a golden opportunity: “Hey, Ann, why don’t you look at MY finger!” (you know which one)

And for any of you heaping scorn upon Toni as the guardian, she is raising Shannon right. I clearly heard Ann say, “Bite me, kid!” and all Toni told Shannon was ,“Do as the lady says”

I really think Ann is after TJ. Maybe to have him kiss it and make it better.
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
Dave, read that blog again. Greg said he wished he’d chosen another name because it was prone to being misspelled and sounded clunky, not because it wasn’t representative of who the strip was supposed to represent. She’s still his focus, but he does like to explore other story lines.

Ain’t none of you high class attorneys figured out that the finger with the nerve damage IS NOT the finger that was bitten? Throw the case out of court!

Anyway – feeling SO low and dirty is a short-term thing. Really fleeting, in fact. Of course, she did have time to go home and change her clothes (and probably shower) to remove the “low and dirty” feeling..But it’s a NEW day and a NEW week, so I can concentrate on better things than Ox! Ohhhh, but I can’t hold a pen with my “injured” finger. Let’s see – it’s not low and dirty to sue a child or it’s custodian when she bit me for trying to take back MY property. THAT’S not low and dirty, that’s just protecting my RIGHTS!.Now I need COFFEE.
SwimsWithSharks over 12 years ago
It’s totally obscene and offensive and I wish it would stop. Really, that topic should not be brought up in polite company. You who are discussing it are foul and should be ashamed. Please stop it with the lawyer talk.

Look at the first panel, friends. Does no one else see a resemblance— physical as well as behavioral— between AE and Shannon? Is is that the artist has a limited repetoire, or is he trying to tell us something? And I still love how cooly TJ flipped off AE when she flirted with him last week— “I don’t teach, and you couldn’t learn.” Priceless!
ZacBSM over 12 years ago
There are ways to control children without resorting to physical abuse. I never mentioned anything about swatting. You are putting words into my mouth – um, in my post. If you do have kids, oh pity. Hope you DO know that discipline/control does not equal to physical abuse.
JohhnyB over 12 years ago
Mojitobaby:
Hey, at least I am offering a suggestion to make nonsense lawsuits out of the reach of the average welfare-sucking, give-me-money-cuz-I-slurped-hot-coffee person.
A huge part of health-insurance-run-rampant prices today are due to the results of medical torts of some sort. Nonsense lawsuits are, unfortunately, the American way. But don’t forget there has been no justice for OJ’s or Casey Anthony’s victims.
yuggib over 12 years ago
However, being the responsible adult does not make one the child’s legal guardian. That person in this case is Toni’s Brother. I don’t know what State this takes place in, but many have enhanced child abuse laws that allow the judge to increase sentencing for an offender. By trying to take away from something from someone that you have not given yourself is called theft. Go for it Anny-witch, and have a countersuit filed for assault and battery of a child, attempted theft (don’t we all wish it could be “grand theft” of the equivalent?), and (just for spits and giggles) add a complaint of sexual assualt to the mix (it might work.) Then let’s see haw far the (supposidly) mighty will fall.

sfknight over 12 years ago
if it actually goes to court i’d expect under the law toni would lose the suit and the awards to ann would probably be $1 just to let her know what a petty person she is.

if you look at tj, there’s a real hardening in his face that you rarely see. i used to wonder who disliked who more, but it seems to me that tj realllly dislikes ann. ann, although not happy to need tj’s skills at selling, still seems to try and win some kind of approval from him.
