This is solely about getting revenge on Toni! But I don’t think her lawsuit stands a snowball’s chance in Hades of being successful. She will have no witnesses on her behalf. Plus, TJ will not allow her to use Shannon as a tool in this regard. In the last panel, you can see that he is really peeved at her!

Ann is guilty of assault for touching a child in the presence of a guardian without that guardian’s permission. But since this is a cartoon, no attempt at a reality check will be made. She serves Toni, Toni has her arrested. And with a child assault on Ann’s record, she cannot work at Weenie Hut.

again, even if she wins the lawsuit she won’t get that amount. juries have in the past awarded $1 just to show their contempt for the plaintiff. one thing is certain, ann has nothing to make her the least bit sympathetic

Ann’s attorney only knows what Ann’s told him, but in the real world one would want some sort of corroborating testimony in addition to the physical evidence of the bite itself. .If it comes down to a case of he said/she said, the type of lawsuit will often determine whether you can coerce someone to settle out of court just to make it go away. If this were a sexual harassment suit and Ann owned her own business, it might be worth her while to pay. If this lawsuit could prompt CPS into looking at Toni for neglect, and into Shannon’s family situation in particular, Toni might be scared enough to cave to blackmail and pay her.

Personally, I don’t think there will be a trial. I think TJ has enough in his “little black book” that will discourage Ms Awful from following through on any legal action. Like I said yesterday, he is getting ready to lower the boom on her. He is truly peeved that Ann is using Shannon as a pawn in her battle with Toni !

If the frivolous lawsuit manages to land into a judge’s bracket, hopefully it will wake Toni up about needing to keep Shannon’s behavior in check. Surely Toni does not need this hassle and wouldn’t have this hassle had she kept closer eye on her behavior instead of finding it funny that Shannon bit Ann and encouraging her to continue with this kind of behavior by complimenting her and laughing about it. It will teach Toni a thing or two about parenting or taking care of a child, any child, niece or not. Knowing how some judge might operate, a judge might rule for Toni to take some parenting/childcare classes to learn how to properly discipline a misbehaving child. If I were a judge, that is what I would do. I would not allow Ann get her $28,000 civil lawsuit, but require that Toni pays any medical bill not covered by insurance, if any, AND that she attends and completes parenting/childcare course and completes it.

Just to be clear, I am NOT an Ann fan…but I also am not a fan of Toni’s flippant attitude towards Shannon’s behavior, either. She knows her brother is not really raising Shannon, and that falls upon her to do that, and she needs to do a better job. If she doesn’t want the job, then she needs to re-think her role in Shannon’s life.

I wonder if Ann violated company policy by not reporting an on the job injury? And why would Toni be respponsible? Children can be held to be liable for their own torts. An adult can be held to be responsible if they reasonably knew of a propersity to act in a certain way. Sort of like the dog gets the first byte free.

@ treblemaker@ Sideshow Starlet.True story – my mom’s best friend’s mother was babysitting her grandchild and her playmate, and played the “eeny meenie” game to determine who was going to first at something. She automatically used the version that she’d been taught and had used all her life, which was “catch a n*gger by the toe.” And then she burst into tears because she not only actually heard what she’d just said – but because her grandchild’s playmate was black. .The original title of Agatha Christie’s 1939 book 10 Little Indians was 10 Little N*ggers. I had a book about Little Black Sambo when I was a kid. A lot of rhymes, phrases and other things like this that are still part of our culture are actually the results of casual racism, and it’s uncomfortable for many to realize that, or have to stop and second-guess themselves, or wonder if they should be running every word through some sort of editor or filter. A lot of people today are totally ignorant of how loaded certain words and phrases are, and unaware of the negative impact those sayings might have on others. .As much as I might say that I think people really should look at the intent and be fair before getting outraged, I’m never going to have to wonder just whether there was an actual insult aimed at me – or not.

I’d say Toni should let this go to trial, if it lasts to that point. I think with a decent lawyer Toni would prevail in court.

Shannon may be “just a little kid,” but Toni is not. Toni not only failed to reprimand Shannon or apologize to Ann for the attack (or even check that Ann was okay, which you’d think she’d do considering she has EMT training and considering human bites can get very nasty very quickly), but she went on to laugh about the situation and congratulate Shannon and encourage her behavior. Toni should have acted like an adult and a parent instead of like a vindictive child out to harass a woman in her workplace. It’s pretty much the same as bringing your dog in, encouraging it to bite someone, and then walking away. Honestly, Ann should just get a restraining order so these people stop coming around harassing and attacking her at work. Whatever faults Ann has, Toni’s the only who has threatened and encouraged actual violence; Toni and TJ are the ones continuing to pursue this feud with Ann long after it is appropriate, justified, or “funny.”

You’ve already been formally depantsed (an unlovely image, to be sure, but apt), why stop now? Either way, you’re quite the loser: playing the “I’m really a troll” card when you’ve been show up to be a colossal ignoramus to try to save face is beyond desperate, but then again, so is the alternative, which is deliberately posing as a moron to get attention. .“Libtard”? Really? That’s the sort of tired old crap you want to bring here? And is that truly the best you can do? God, I pity the conservatives on this board who are great people, capable of playing fair and keeping their poilitics at home, being tied to you by association. Is your life truly that empty that you’ve literally spent years prancing around this site and the last, trolling for thrills and attention? I’d actually pity you for having such a crippling need, and worse, for actually being proud of your “accomplishment”, if I weren’t so busy laughing myself sick..And in all honesty, I have to say I’m disappointed – I would have expected some sort of progress since your spectacular foot-stomping, door-slamming, I’m-in-Mensa-and-you-all-aren’t farewell tantrum on comics.com. As hissy-fits go it was pretty hysterical laughable memorable, what with all those veiled promises of what the troll “sleeper cells” would do when they emerged again after the board closed. God, what a colossal letdown to see it’s just you again – and still with no “A” game. Ah well, life is full of disappointments..And don’t flatter yourself that I’ve bothered to keep track of you or look up “archives”. You have no idea just who does that, but in that aspect, I’m just the messenger.

You’re talking ancient history, and it won’t carry over. It’s about as relevant as applying Brad’s character pre 9/11 to current events. Things change, you have to keep up..The Vegas trip, the firefighter scam and anything else borderline criminal took place before TJ started rooming with Brad. Nancy and Frank were aware they were scammed in the catering con, and felt he was a bad influence on Brad. Brad was also PO’d at him, yet made him his roommate anyway..After that, a change occurred. Nancy found out more about his conman father and his early life, that his mother is dead and dad in the wind, and now he’s part of the family. He babysits Shannon and gets nothing out of it, which is at odds with the picture you want to paint of him. Lying to upselling a customer is not on a par with stealing perfume – the customer can always void the sale or change his mind, so have some perspective there. .He has money so that he doesn’t have to work a steady job, and if he’s so unscrupulous, what does testifying for Ann get him? What “price is right”? Do you seriously think a such criminal mastermind would be dumb enough to do that for the promise of money that unscrupulous Ann would surely renege on? If he’s as calculating and mercenary as you make him out to be, why would he upset his living arrangements and his relationship with the deGroots for what would come to a few thousand dollars – or nothing at all? .I know you want to keep revising things, but stop promoting what’s starting to read like a troll gospel and read the actual strip – I think you skipped today’s. And for all your recall of older events, your memory sure seems to have failed you when it comes to the events of the past few weeks..The plot will hinge in the fact that TJ will NOT support Ann. She’ll either try to bully him (long shot) or try to bully some other poor sap to back her up – and she’ll do it in Ox’s presence,

Greg is the matador and we are the bull. The more he waves the the red cape (Ann), the more enraged we become. In real life the bull will on occasion snag himself a matador, but Greg will have none of that.

Awww Shucks, Folks – We ALL know that TJ wouldn’t intentionally do anything to cause his friends grief. Maybe a little practical joke to amuse himself and provide comic relief for his many admirers. But no intent to cause harm – c’mon now, let’s be friends – kiss and make up. There that wasn’t so hard, was it..Now about Ann – he’s got a real grudge going there. He sticks a knife in her every chance he gets. He may tell her that he’ll lie on the stand, if necessary, to destroy her lawsuit. But more likely, he’ll give her enough rope to hang herself – cue Ox. It may be ugly, but it’ll also be funny, and it may be the last we’ll see Annie [at least until Greg needs her again for a villian]..Good night, John Boy.

Hey, I don’t write it – if you’re unhappy with what Greg has done to him, or with Laughing Boy, take it up with him. Or join the Troll Patrol – they live to re-write everything for shock value. But after he accidentally set fire to the kitchen and the deGroots took him in, he changed. All of his “schemes” turned from criminal cons to become “punk’d” practical jokes that backfired on him and showed his vulnerability or “foolproof” plans that are supposed to benefit others (usually Brad or Toni). Greg made it very clear where his new loyalty lies..This current arc is a case in point. It’s payback for Brad – it doesn’t benefit TJ monetarily beyond minium wage, and the fun he’s gotten from making Ann toe the line has now turned to disgust. .Sorry it doesn’t fit with your version of how things ought to be, but your version belngs to a different comic.

Yeah, what you said. I took too long to come up with the link, but that’s it, in a nutshell.

While surfing the archives the other day, I ran across one piece of good advice that TJ gave to Brad. He advised Brad to tell Dirty jokes to Toni to get to know her. Turns out Toni loved the jokes and they had a good laugh together. (The jokes were not all that dirty.)

Anything that has to do with legal stuff bores me. This could all be settled by Ann challenging Toni to a duel…mud wrestling, with Knute the referee.

This makes absolutely no sense from a legal perspective. Why is TJ even bothering to argue with her??

Remember folks, this is just a comic strip. But like others, I am just wondering if TJ is playing Undercover Boss?
