I heard once of a man with “alien leg syndrome”, the overwhelminb belief his leg was not a part of his body. He kept trying to find a surgeon willing to amputate, with no luck. After a period of psychotherapy it seemed the poor fellow was cured, but then he froze his leg with liquid nitrogen, forcing the amputation he wanted. Strange things, these human minds.
