Hey, you can’t say it didn’t work out for Luann’s dad – he may not have become the next Jimmy Page, but he did meet (and marry) a hot girl!

That’s okay, Nancy. A really promising young actress I knew wound up having a successful and fulfilling career as a social worker. Let Luann major in drama in college.

But if I understand the dad correctly, he wasn’t in a band as a career choice – rather as a side hobby (with benefits). If that’s all Luann wanted from acting, I don’t think the dad would be worried. But he’s right – as a career, it’s pretty bleak.

One of Frank’s more profoundly wise undertakings. It seemed to have worked just fine. Women are more attracted to men who date attractive women.

Funny…actors, real estate, musicians, painters…top 20 make all the money in the world…the rest make SOME and work very hard for it…and most get nothing. You know…80/20 rule…which if you follow it you far enough…explains the .01 percent of the country who own EVERYTHING…and the same reason tells us there will be a market for guillotines soon.

    Cutting edge…

The right time to do crazy things is when you’re either young enough to settle down later, or when you’re old enough that it doesn’t matter any more. Young is better.

Luann and Brad should be grateful. They clearly have loving and caring parents. I recall a long while back when Dirk had done something to Brad (don’t remember what), Brad’s dad had to be held back, he was going to attack Dirk for whatever it was. They have great parents, and should appreciate it.

Let her pursue a career as an actress. She’ll probably be living at home until she’s in her mid- to late-20’s anyway…she can at least score them tickets to whatever dinner theater she’ll be in.

“Do as I say, not as I do.” Yep. That’s right! That’s the prerogative of a father! And if the kids don’t like it, that’s tough sh #### t ! It doesn’t matter what dad or mom did or didn’t do. It’s their job to steer their kids right, regardless of whatever happened in their own youth. Luann’s dad is really being quite sensible. And the fact that he was in a rock band in college actually gives him authority; he went through it, and he knows what he’s talking about! Mom should give him that much credit and acknowledge it. And Luann should give heed to what he’s saying.

Both parents could have recessive blond genes, which can lead to a blond daughter. But if both were blond and Luann was brunette questions could be asked.

“Brunettes can have blonde children; it’s a recessive gene which needs two copies to be expressed, without a dominant gene to mask it.”Before I saw this response I said much the same thing, but now I want to say that understanding this basic fact about genetics might forestall some un-called for suspicions, jealousies, fights and divorces. It should be taught to everyone in high school. It took half a semester of genetics in college biology before I knew about this.

I’ve seen a strip where they have had implied sex, just before – not after. Saw it recently in the archives. Don’t remember even the approximate date. Maybe somebody can locate it, if it’s that important.

Sisyphos: And probably also makes $5,000 a year, plus having the 1%ers demand she be fired to save taxes. I like public service, but there is an inherent conflict of interest: the ones who pay your check (public) and the ones who hire and fire (politicians) are two separate and opposing groups. I ally with the source of my pay and get fired (and often blacklisted), which is how I ended up in Canada to feed my family.

The Reign of Terror that brought so many original revolutionaries to the “National Razor” was a civil war between revolutionary factions – FYI, Napoleon was a young 2nd lieutenant on leave for 2 years in Corsica during that time. Napoleon wasn’t “brought to power” through it, either. A Constitutional government arose after le Terreur ended – it was that Directory that Bonaparte overthrew. But that coup occured 5 years after Robespierre was kissed by Mme. La Guillotine. It wasn’t the instant or automatic segue that you’re implying..Most revolutions have built-in purges and are almost immediately corrupted through a power rush and ideological infighting – all that’s often accomplished is that they murder the Czar/King/whoever merely to take his place.

“Thus the next generation is screwed by the previous generations’ inability to set them straight without feeling like a hypocrite”.Agreed. .Possible response to that complaint:“Honey, I didn’t do what I now see was right but I don’t do it anymore because I know better now. .“You know I love you and am advising the best I can based on what I now think is right for you.”.Not that trying it out would be the end of the world. After all, his reasons aren’t her reasons. Her talents are not his talents — or perhaps lack thereof. She needs more experience to realize what she will really like, possibly love.

“That’s $5,000 a year if an actor finds work, which most don’t. ".No, most likely it would be the average taken as all income for actors divided by the number of actors. Or alternatively, the average wage of each actor, summed up and divided by the number of actors Thus, some would make zero dollars per year as actors while others would make a hundred million dollars per year as actors. Thus, for it all to average out, a fairly large number would be nearer to zero than to $5,000.

REGARDING:" Frank; you see for Luann some nice, plain-jane education so she can get some nice plain-jane job sitting in a nice plain-jane cubicle for the rest of her working life, wondering what might have been. Frank: the world’s most boring person.".It is possible for a parent to know the dangers of a chosen career. With failure or success, there may be a high suicide rate. With success, there may be death related to assorted drugs or other actions. With failure, there may be descent into prostitution or porn films or both..I’m not saying it WILL happen, but part of the job of a parent is to steer children away from obvious dangers. Further, saying that the job of a parent is to help the child be or do whatever they are capable of would not make sense if the kid could be a great serial killer or tyrant..Many things which are taught in school are not used by many ot the students but none of the things which are taught are never used by any of the students (even if only to win a trivia game). .If you knew what you would never need to know, it would be simple but then you would be locked into things you had been taught and never have a chance to do things which MIGHT interest you later. .Some companies hire people based on a general aptitude even if they settle in a specialized job and never use the rest of it. At least it got them through the front door..Or you might want to start your own company and find the things you learned would help you in your own work as boss or in overseeing the work of the minions..Finally, for the night: The father can give direction but not demand obedience. Luann will decide for herself but she should seek the advice of all she trusts.

Again, there was a constitutional government in place five years after the Reign of Terror ended, so the Napoleonic coup can hardly be termed “organizing the rabble”. .And while massive war reparations and other punitive measures from WWI contributed to the rise of National Socialism in Germany, remember that Italy became a Fascist regime in 1922, 6 years before the US stock market crashed, kicking off the Great Deperession. .Your “brevity” is not only incredibly simplistic, it’s downright misleading.
