I milked as many cows…by hand…as I was years old. Arkansas…Morning and night. When I figured out what was happening…I began lobbying my parents for us to move back to California. I was seven, and could see there must be more to the future. When I was going to turn eight…there were quite good results.

When I was almost old enough to drive you could still find gas at 20 cents a gallon.

Inflation has been going on a long time.

It turned out to be a ram. The goat never left her side after that.

didn’t have anything but the TV, and it was a cow, not a goat. In some ways, it was good, but I somewhat like the technology today

I milked a goat once. I don’t think I did something right though, it came out frozen…I dunno

Ashburn Stadium: In 1919, phone numbers were only five digits with the first represented by the initial letter of the exchange. New York City (and possibly some others) may have had longer numbers, but Dallas was five. I still have some advertising rulers with numbers that low.

Gasoline was that low because of price controls. Of course, it was rationed so you could drive to church on Sundays and to the stores to get groceries (also rationed) and other items (mostly rationed and also with price controls), but not much farther. As the merchants explained all shortages, “Don’t you know there’s a war on?” It was so bad than some failed after the war because they were boycotted by irate customers because of excessive use of that line.

I grew up with a B&w tv with a turn-dial for channels. When my teenage siblings broke it over channel argument we had to resort to tapered-pliers.

I’ve milked goats – yuck. I milked many a cow growing up and never minded that chore (as least so far as any kid “doesn’t mind” his chores), but I hated milking the goats. For some reason I’ll never understand that particular chore usually fell to the girls.

I hand milked a cow, but never a goat. I have friends who raise goats and hand milk them though.

Cows are milked from the side and can kick over the bucket; goats are milked from behind and the arms protect the bucket.
