I don’t think his audience is buying it.

Probably the most successful ventriloquist in history moved his lips noticeably, but it didn’t matter because he worked on radio. Go figure.

So ask the dummy why his voice sounds muffled.

Ventriloquist means “belly talker”. It’s a way of talking with your abdominal muscles tensed up to make it sound like your voice is coming from elsewhere.

I figured by now someone would have explain whom I was talking about. Apparently either everyone knows Edgar Bergen or no one does. His daughter Candice (aka Mdm. Louis Malle)? Sic transit gloria mundi.
