My first go ‘round with this a Lil’ Abner of this vintage. It would be interesting to see how the styling evolved into the 50’s-60’s portrayals.

    And good morning VB!

1st time I’ve ever seen this strip. 1st reaction was to be very sorry for Daisy. Pansy and her reactions seem alot deeper than ‘in character’. Capp had a very tough childhood. How much autobiography ends up in the strip?

NOTE: Some of the above do not realize the website has rights to only so many of the strips. The first strip was done about two weeks ago, and is running from there again

Go back to May 15 by clicking on the calendar, and Lil Abner strip #1 will come up – and you can click foreward to get the full story – again. (Clicking on May 14 will bring up the end of the previous arc, leaving Salome hanging – but be advised – Salome escapes some near calamities if you have access to all the strips.)

This current strip goes back to the ’30s. By the late ’40s Mammy was a lot shorter. And Daisy Mae had…umm… filled out.

You’re seeing the tail end of the Coco Channel revolution. As soon as women stopped buying the boyish sportsman look, the ideal silhouette went right back to the hourglass. Today’s is a weird small top thunder thighs, or a starved hourglass.

Daisy was drawn ideal. I always liked her 60’s hair flowing down rather than 30’s bob or 40’s braided.
