It’s all in the perspective. My son just “graduated” from 5th grade and we couldn’t be prouder. He worked very hard during his elementary school years and deserved a little credit for his hard work. Luckily our school district doesn’t require cap and gown and all the other incidentals. Now onward to middle school.
I agree with the comic. It’s ridiculous what some places do these days when kids move on to a new school (no, it’s not really a graduation.) If you’re so proud of what your child did, then celebrate on your own, but to expect the school to make a big deal of it is ridiculous and cheapens the meaning of a degree (whether high school or college)
I distinctly remember I DID have a preschool ‘graduation’. It consisted of us, in unison, doing “I’m a Little Teapot”, receiving a certificate (which mattered not to any of us) and COOKIES and PUNCH! And this was in the Dark Ages of the ’60s!
We didn’t even have preschool. I had to learn how to color and cut stuff out at home. Yeah, you might say I was “home schooled” for preschool and kindergarten.

I think I survived very well without Preschool, Kindergarten, 5th grade, and 8th grade graduation ceremonies. High school was what mattered.
