Why do you keep doing that? It is sooooo annoying.

Reference all the Bible quotes and discussion of the future life, is it real? Definitely. Do we have a clue what it will be like? No! All to often Christ spoke in parables and symbolically that made it easier to grasp the concept but all to often we took it literally. Reference the woman at the well for just one of many examples. She thought he meant water when Christ actually meant something else entirely. I get tickled watching ministers and others tell “all about what it will be like” when we don’t know. There is a reason death is such a permanent divide. We will have to live by faith and be pleasantly surprised when we get there. Which these days with this economy, won’t be too soon.

How did a comic about dirty words turn into a forum for religious grandstanding?-Just be sure faith-based claims are expressed as opinion and not fact. Many different faiths have different beliefs but common goals. Our results are important, not which idea is better.

Calvin sounds like a James Bond villain…and Blofeld sounds like a bodily funkshun. Ironic?

Although I am a believer, I am only sure of one thing, that the afterlife will be much different than we have been led to believe by popular culture. I am sure that there will be many surprised souls, especially those that put on a good show and who won’t make the final cut.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet (Shakespeare)..A Rose is a Rose is a Rose (Gertrude Stein)..Some words have unpleasant emotional (personal) meanings attached to them. Some individuals can not separate the emotion from that which the word describes.

@Vonne Anton: Different religions and different denominations view faith somewhat differently. If you don’t believe me, just take it on faith…………………………Sorry about that. I couldn’t resist. :>)

There are many “versions” (King James, New International, Contemporary English, New American Standard, Revised Standard, etc.) and none of these “versions” are entirely complete or accurate translations. This does not mean that they are useless or largely inaccurate. Editors of most of these translations had the honorable intention of providing a close rendition of the original language, but things get “muddy” when translating from, say, NT Greek to modern English. This leads to different possibilities in interpretation, but not necessarily insurmountable difficulties. The oldest Biblical manuscript copies we have are not error-free but are in remarkable agreement for any ancient document. (No original manuscript exists for ANY ancient document.) We have over 5000 Greek fragments alone (+ Latin and Syriac versions) representing the whole of the New Testament within the first three centuries C.E. In contrast, most ancient works (Caesar, Tacitus, etc.) have few (less than ten) extant copies and most of those span a thousand years from original to copy. As for the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament), the Jewish people are well-known for their respect for and attention to detail regarding their Scriptures. The two main versions used for modern English translations of the OT are the Septuagint and the Masoretic texts. The Septuagint would have been familiar to Jesus as it was in common use in his time. The Dead Sea Scrolls (First Century C.E. documents discovered in the 1940s and later) testify to the reliability of OT as we now have it.

I think the difference is that Hobbes (which I agree is an imposter, and sometimes lays it on a bit thick…) is sharing other strips that are relevant to the topic of today’s C&H strip.-He isn’t just pounding us with a one-phrase advertisement for some other strip saying it’s better.-Plenty of people here view many strips each day and search the site and will discover the strips they like.

Rogue, The difference between Hobbes (TPPC) and baby66boy is the apparent intent. Hobbes posts comic strips that are relevant to the current C&H or perhaps a current event (Memorial Day in the US). Where baby66boy’s majority of comments are that Hevenly Nostrils are WAY better than C&H or something similar. Time will tell if HN will become a classic or not, I have started reading to be make sure I am not being biased and it is a good strip, but it is still young. I am not part of any club, but I do prefer Hobbes’ comments to baby66boy’s since I do not feel insulted after reading them. Unless it is a really bad pun ;-) But that applies to several other posters as well, but I still have a grin on my face after reading them.
