I just have one question, and do not judge me… what is halcyon? (10 points to whoever can tell me what movie has a similar quote, but replaces “halcyon” with “a flash drive”)
@unnormal,JohnnyDiego’s comment is amusing even though he does indicate insouciance about pronunciation. Apparently he doesn’t care whether it’s nicer or knicker. It matters to you; maybe that’s why you’re unnormal (in a positive way).
I’m old enough to remember when the Dead Sea was just sick. Old people know this term as “The good old days”. Another term you may want to look up is “OCD”. You may recognize it as “Troll”.
Glad to see that the younger bloggers are using C&H instead of Xgen Studios or similar venues. Had to lock out the site after neighbor’s kids were caught using it.
Calvin’s got great vocabulary for a six year old. I think the halcyon days of youth come in 3 words summer and saturdays! : ) By the way for anyone else who was wondering what halcyon means: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/halcyon?s=t
@bluskies,It’s Greek to me!Yes, today Dad is a sophist. I doubt that Mom will be on the same train of thought, although she and Calvin might try to derail Dad. Pacopuddy was on the right track, though.
Calvin’s Dad BS’s him, and then Calvin goes and tells it all to his mother. The relationships between these three are as tangled as the pattern on the chair Calvin’s Dad is sitting on.
Just got the sad news of a cousin’s passing early this morning from cancer that she’s been fighting off and on for the last 4 years or so (she was only 49 years of age — just 6 years older than I am right now).
Situations like this should be a lesson for everyone: don’t let feelings of anger, resentment, bitterness, envy, etc., be your constant companions in life and don’t let time drift by before deciding later on which days/years in your past were your best ones. Life isn’t over until it’s over. Make every single day count NOW so that your “halcyon days” are what you’re presently living in . . . because you just never know which day will be your last.
Sorry to be such a downer, everyone.
Time to get back to the funny business of our favorite little scamp, Calvin, and his faithful b.f.f., Hobbes (even though he doesn’t appear in today’s strip)!
@GretchensMom: Very sorry for your loss. I had a friend who suddenly died of a heart attack at age 40. So you are right; we never know, and your advice is excellent.
Time it was and what a time it wasA time of innocence, a time of confidences.Long ago it must be, I have a photograph.Preserve your memories. They’re all that’s left you.

Dad is right, you can’t identify the halycon days at least until 10 years after they happen.
