A friend suggested that we were all just a figment of his imagination. I answered that I was very concerned if he imagined someone like me. Now he’s nervous.

Once, in a hotel room I had never been in before, I saw an object in a mirror and then noticed the actual object for the first time. I began to wonder if this is proof that the world is not a figment of my imagination.

Fascinating study of philosophy here. leftwingpatriot, I understand what you mean, but never stop remembering those who have gone away. Just don’t let it be a problem.

True, cOO1. I once attended a study group in which I mentioned that current events in my city/country had me worried. One of the other members replied, “Your problem is, you think too much. I hardly think at all.” Both the group leader and I had to bite our lips to keep from laughing out…because to anyone who knew her that was painfully obvious!!

His parents don’t disappear when Calvin doesn’t think about them, but they are no longer in his conscious mind. They are no shorter in his conscious mind, either. You may scratch the previous sentence if you’re itching to do so.

In the last panel, Hobbes is ‘baiting’ Calvin, but Calvin fails to ‘worm’ his way out of it.

Calvin, that’s right, don’t think about the monsters and they will go away. Of course then the creepy Gargoyle’s will just come out of the walls. Sleep tight.

I feel you, Kuren. It’s an election year in the US though, so politics tends to get mixed with everything online. The rest of us will just have to wait it out, I guess.

What does Mom know about Calvin’s imagination? According to her, Hobbes is just a stuffed animal.

Reality -asumming it exists- has a way of rearing its ugly head.

With Calvin’s imagination, he should be able to wish the monsters away.

@PixieJane: I don’t remember the “paranoid wing” Far Side strip that you mentioned, but the “Floating Head of Death” strip (your link) was a classic. It’s too bad that Gary Larson and his syndicate haven’t allowed The Far Side to be available online. It is a strip that clearly was a major influence on some other current strips, not to mention a lot of modern greeting cards.

But for how long? However long, it can’t be longenough, especially B….

…waking up alone in the house at 3:00 am, why does my mind suddenly say “Hey! We haven’t thought about monsters in a while! Let’s think about monsters!”?

It’s not the monsters under the bed that concern me. It’s the ones that rear their heads from out of the blue on a sunny Tuesday Afternoon…..
