I always wanted to have a business card made up like that…“Jon, Boy Genius, Hope of Mankind”Once you realize the answer is 42 – there’s nothing beyond your reach.;-)
When our kids were very little, my dad told them to call him “Grandfather Sir.” They thought he was serious and to this day, that’s what they call him.
Thanks, @cookies333. Have a good year in school. If you get too bored, you can always draw Calvin and Hobbes on all of your test papers, instead of answering the questions. (Just kidding.)
The data suggests it’s the other way around: he’s constantly put down because he’s an irresponsible megalomaniac. Moe is an exception, he’d put down anybody. That said, I understand Calvin and his brand of ego – and yes, of genius. If only he would apply himself for good, with the aid of Hobbes his Shadow self. If only… it wouldn’t be as funny, but in real life he’d make himself and everyone else much happier.
Children like him often overcompensate not because they’re put down, but because of their deep need to be liked and to be seen as a worthwhile and fascinating person. Elsewhere in fiction, Naruto is the same and for the same reason, leaving aside the combination gift and curse that’s been laid upon him.Been there, done that, now know why.
Oh, one more thing in all fairness: there really is no doubt some real envy at Calvin’s brand of inspirational brilliance among his peers. My friends kept on trying to tell me the same thing, when I was being put down by some, but I didn’t – couldn’t – believe them. “Why would anyone be jealous?” I wouldn’t blame anybody for reacting to my own brand of inflated ego, in hindsight, but I had all the good will that Calvin lacks most of the time (and which makes him funny).
If he’s a schizoid megalomaniac, then all children growing into ENFP preferences are. The second part is an exaggeration of what kids like him (and me) often get into (becoming legends in their own minds). The first simply reflects the greater-than-usual dichotomy between the “Ego” and the “Core Self” that seems normal to the ENFP preference. We have imaginary friends with a vengeance… and so we’re often growing up into actors with a flair for psychodrama (e.g., Christopher Lee, Jeri Ryan), fantasy and sci-fi writers, cartoonists, Hollywood screenwriters… :))
Thank you for this. I sorta have the read on you and figured you are an OK guy. (I don’t know if that matters to you or not.) Because you are an OK guy, I thought poking a little fun would be appreciated. Apparently my timing was bad. I am sorry. Being that you are an OK guy, I will ask for that time and patience you need to figure me out. At any time you can ask me whatever and I will answer truthfully. Honestly, I consider you – maybe not a friend, that is reserved for face-to-face – as a congenial acquaintance and joking buddy here at gocomics. Hopefully, you will read me that way someday as well. (Let you in on a personal thing right now: it hurts me when I find out I have offended someone foolishly.) Peace.

No, I’m not good with computers at all. As a matter or fact, I always refer to myself as the “Queen of Computer-Stupid Land”!!! I also say that everything I know about them would fit into something the size of a thimble . . . and there’d still be a TON of room leftover when I’m done “filling” it!!! But thanks to the kindness of others who understand that not everyone in the world is as completely literate in the ways of computers and how they work as others are, I have the instructions written down and always on hand if I want to provide a (picture) image or a link of some kind that I think others may be interested in. Thanks to that little bit of information, I’m only able to appear smarter than I truly am . . . but thanks for thinking so anyhow!!! You’re very sweet!!!!! ;-)

Some minutes ago – never mind how long precisely – I decided to share my ego with the world – if the world is big enough to hold it.

If Pinky and the Brain could be combined into one personality and then turned into a human, they would sound like Calvin.
