Billings Montana, was named after a guy from Vermont.

Calvin is an actual Boy Scout in some of the earlier strips, but Watterson abandoned this when he realised that Calvin wasn’t the sort of boy who would willingly join such an association, as he much prefers his own company (and that of Hobbes).

duct tape to the rescue for me last week!! the float ball rod in my commode snapped last week while i was trying to bend it a little (running toilet). duct tape took care of it.

that was the exact contents of my TA50 bag in the army, except I had 2 rocks and a map of all the gasthaus’s in a 20k perimeter around Giessen Germany.

What Calvin says about the umbrella in the last panel made me think of Inspector Gadget.

I keep thinking about the toilet paper.. if the world ever goes to toilet, the person who stockpiled all the paper would be king.

In the movie, “Second Hand Lions,” “the kid” was planning to run away and had a sort-of map of Montana—an area code map of the U.S. torn out of a telephone book, which included Area Code 409. When asked by his great-uncles, played by Michael Caine and Robert Duvall, where he was headed, the kid Walter, played by Haley Joel Osmet, pointed out the top of the map and said he thought he would go to Montana.

We here in Montana concur with Calvin, Hobbes and Walter that our “Last Best Place,” a come-lately motto and description of the Big Sky Country or Treasure State, is a worthy kind of heaven, a place much to be wished for but hard to obtain, a place that’s at the end of the rainbow, much to be desired. It would be interesting to know what else Watterson thinks about MT. In this strip, he MIGHT also be saying that Montana is just another place among Calvin’s nonsensical survival collection. Maps of Montana are free for the asking.

Map of Montana? He doesn’t even live in Montana! Maybe that’s what he plans to use for toilet paper….(just kidding!)

Montana and North Dakota are great places to live.Nobody with a cardboard sign is thinking about heading north now.-40 keeps the riffraff out.

Don’t downplay Montana. My sister used to live north of Eureka, Montana, first house across the border so most of their business was done in Montana. (You haven’t lived until driving the Going to Sun Highway!)

Why an umbrella when earlier refusing to even use one in the rain, then I realized that was in an earlier Shirley and Son strip.

When this strip was drawn a kid with a backpack was weird enough for Calvin. Now it’s normal!

Now if he had a book on bugs in Montana, that would be something.

I had to LMAO when I watched the astronaut Don Pettit duct tape the joint cover between the ISS and the Falcon 9 last May.
