I wouldn’t even notice if someone had both a belt and suspenders. But I’d sure notice it if someone’s pants fell down. Suspenders can lose their grip. A belt can slide. I guess Opal is going to have to learn from experience — and if she doesn’t, Pearl will certainly remind her.
Typical woman, would rather have her man look good than be comfortable or practical. I’ve been in earl’s situation where a belt itself just isn’t enough to hold things up and they still droop, however I never thought of suspenders as a backup system until now.
A number of years ago in church, we all stood for a hymn. Across the aisle, an older man with a belly stood up and his pants fell down around his ankles. He struggled for a while trying to hold the hymnal with one hand and pull up the pants with the other. Embarrassing for him, but funny for everyone else.

Wait, now he does trust his pants showing he is a fully trustworthy man. Now your gender, I do not know, See Eccl 7:28, Prov 7:1-12, 31:1-3.

Why do you need 3 pounds of keys, Earl. Are you also carrying rolls of quarters?
