Beni: Inez! Stop kicking! Mama says it's time to eat! Petey: You know this toddler? Toddler: Sonaja. Alice: Of course he does! That's Beni's sister, Inez. Beni: Ha ha! She says Petey's head looks like a rattle! Alice: He gets that all the time! Petey: Is the ball game over? Why are you wearing a crown? Alice: Beni kicked the ball onto the roof. The crown is because I'm the Picnic Princess! Petey: This is why I stay in my room all the time. Kevin: I know what you mean.

It is a relief to Petey that Beni can handle his little sister, Inez. But there is still far too much action for him; I fear Kevin’s sympathy does not offset Alice’s being Picnic Princess (which may have ramifications)….

I’m sure that more than the crown will go to Alice’s head.

I don’t know about the Asperger’s syndrome diagnosis. According to some people, Glenn Gould and Vladimir Nabokov had Asperger’s. They, like Petey, were talented, smart. and cautious, and they weren’t overly fond of other people. That’s not a medical condition. That’s just a realistic worldview.

Way too many people diagnosed with Aspergers these days. Reminds me of the wave of Hyperactive diagnoses and over perscribed Ritalin etc from the 70’s. Not to say there are ailments like these but really most are just personality types that don’t quite fit the boundries of a society that finds more comfort in conformity.

I’ve been reading a fabulous novel called " The Speed of Dark" which delves into this condition from the standpoint of people who have it. I don’t see Petey as being out of the norm though, he’s a geek in training. I resembled him in several aspects at age 9 but grew out of it in a few years. I think he will too, as long as the artist wants to let him grow. I don’t see this as any commentary on a disorder or a condition.

Why does it have to be “funny”?

As opposed to “You’re Fired”.

go tell mary worth she’s gotta be funny. Or the Marvel comics that humor sells better than super heros.
