Back when Iraq under Saddam Hussein invaded Iran, the Iranians used small children to clear the path for their more important trained soldiers by sending them in first.I didn’t care for the practice, but definitely not a sign of cowardice..The Iraqis DID use chemical weapons to kill their enemies (as well as electrifying the swamps) so they might mistake the socks as a chemical weapon. Come to think of it, they might BE chemical weapons – - or possibly biological since fungi are usually used to achieve that perfect odor.
