I dig seeing Littleface/Leonard still on his feet. Sam talking about pumping lead into Mumbles is old school DT. This is a really great Sunday strip and not knowing every answer adds to that.
2+1 Rule, Sam! If Mumbles is wearing body armor, 2+1: double-tap center body mass, plus one to the head!……………………………………………..The vine has dined! Is that Teevo in it with Vincent Vinyl?…………………………………………….So, Tess carries a nice, pink Ruger LCP 380! And Johnny is carrying an old-style barrel-gun; hard to be sure, but maybe an S & W Model 60 Chief’s Special .357 (but only 5 rounds)? Sam’s weapon is less clearly seen, but it looks like it might be a Sig Sauer P228 (9mm)….
I LOVE how everybody is on board in this one! Team Tracy, you are loaded with talent and imagination. I know if these strips are still posted here a year from now, I’m going to go back and read them all over again. Timeless.
Wow! what a beautifully drawn story. I love the chilling 1st pane with just the Mushroom Lady and the vine with the hand still visible. Eaten alive! Great story. Beautifully illustrated.
NUMBER 17!!! lol! hey i have the same gun as johnny adonis does! of course, mine is a CAP GUN and the barrel is grey so i dont terrorize anyone and get killed by the cops lol. how has mumbles taken three shots? he didnt look worse for wear when he ran into doubleup? little face looks ok, and how can tess tell WHO is in the muerte vine? wasnt vinyl thrownin there weeks ago? (storyline time?) i would think he’d be digested by now, and my money is on teevo being the “someone else” tess is talking about. sam and fritz ann pumping lead all over the place, tracy closing in on b.b. eyes, lizz on the dl, and lee ebony tending to the wounded… GREAT WORK, GREAT STORY!!!!
When Legs Diamond was operating, he survived several gun battles through sheer dumb luck. I think Mumbles is the same way. Look how many time’s he’s “died” and lived to face Tracy again.
Even in comic books, I am not normally a fan of stories where leagues of villians face off against leagues of heroes. Somehow to me, even in a comic world, the stories seem a bit contrived. Why would these major villians (each a leader of his own gang at one time) suddenly become followers in another gang? The fact that Mumbles acted on his own to murder Vincent Vinyl proves that these guys are not prone to follow orders.
But I must say that the excellent writing by Mike and exceptional artwork by Joe and the rest of the team have overcome any contrivances in the premise of the story. They have taken what could have been a very trite story and elevated it to the highest form of comic strip writing and art.
I appreciate the fact that Mike treats the readers as if they had intelligence rather than presenting the ultra-simplified story lines that the strip had descended to. I appreciate Joe’s attention to detail in his pencils and Shelly’s brilliant shading and hatching (I use a graphics tablet to ink drawings and can tell you that it is a skill in itself).
In a little over a year, this team has made Dick Tracy its own and it is doubtful to me that they have even come close to hitting their stride. We may talk of the glory days of Gould or the writing of Collins but I think with this team, the glory days of Dick Tracy are just beginning.
Okay. It’s an LCP, .380 auto, centerfire, capacity of 6+1 (6 in magazine, 1 in chamber if I’m not mistaken). Four models, but I didn’t see one in pink on the Ruger site.
Too bad non-clickable URL’s here, but for a good reason, but we ‘Comment Commandos’ can handle it.AOL’ers…….meh…..not so well. For any AOL’ers out there. (grin)“Smilin’ Melvn!” – Wally Wood – Mad Mondays!
AWESOME!The plot, the script, the ACTION! The art (including FANTASTIC shading and smoke – Woo Hoo, Shelley &Shane!) —And guns so realistic, they can be identified by model! (I can only recognize a Colt .45 and a S&W .38, myself.)Such attention to DETAIL!Truly, today’s strip is worthy of saying, “Woo Hoo! It’s Dick Tracy!”(And worth the wait for GoComics to be available!)Wow.
That last panel reminds me of the time Tracy and Sam were closing in on Wormy. There was a terrific shoot-out, and Wormy kept on going, even though he had been shot several times. Tracy said’ “How can a guy that FULL OF LEAD move?” I think that disturbed me a little, when I read it in 6th grade. But, Chester Gould’s point was always, CRIME DOESN’T PAY!

If this was still the Locher days, DT would be at least a quarter mile away by now, and still running!

Does anyone remember “Smilin’ Jack”? Seemed half those characters were seen from the back…no features.

Hey Joe, is that Hector Hammond in the first panel? I wouldn’t trust Lizz to him.

Pink Ruger LCP. Okay, found it. At www.gunsamerica.com. And it’s called “Rasberry” (sic).

LOVE Tracy given BB Eyes some chin music. Much more gutsy than just standing back and slinging lead.
This reboot by Joe & Mike is begging for a hard cover compilation!

As a gentle breeze wafts across town
At Mr. Crimes’ things are going down
The pop, pop, pop and occasional boom
Tell of someone going to their doom
Lizz was savagely stabbed in the arm
Hopefully there’ll be no permanent harm
She says, “Let me go, it’s just a scratch”
Proving she has yet to meet her match
Tracy charges B.B. Eyes’ gun
This is how he gets his fun
A crashing blow from his huge left hand
Sends the little eyed man to the promised land
Tess meanwhile, with her purty little auto
Stumbles on something growing in the grotto
And though you think this verse detestable
Vinnie Vinyl makes one tasty comestible
The porn actor, with his gun in both hands
Gives cover and spoils any further plans
Sam, firing his Webley-Vickers 50/80
Makes Mumbles a little more weighty
Like a sponge he soaks up the lead
Standing there when he should be dead
Fritz-Ann, her face taking on a frown
Wonders why the @#%& won’t he go down
So you all comeback now, hear?
This may be the best story of the year.
I know I’m simply echoing what others have said before
That the strip gives us all we want and then delivers more
The Sunday gang certainly is up to the task
I mean, what more could you ask?
Well, I guess there is just one thing
Why, on a police mission, civilians, did Tracy bring?
Thank you, Det.DD, Maxine Viller, Gweedo Murray and margueritem, for your kind words.
