Transcript:
Luann: "Mom, what's more important in life: finding true love or achieving something amazing?" Mom: "Some would say finding true love IS an amazing achievement" Luann: "That's a wise-sounding-but-useless nonanswer" Mom: "That's all I've got for an impossible-to-answer-depends-on-a-hundred-things question"

Only two choices?

Just think of the millions of people who never acheive either.

No such thing as true love.

Ah, how nice: "Mother-Daughter “bounding”.
Meanwhile, after a hard day’s work, old Frank drags himself home half alive, only to be greeted with: “Dad I need some money for School clothes”, and “Hon? The toilet’s backed up again”.
Mighty_Mouse about 12 years ago
Ok, that’s deep. Suggests that Greg is no longer just phoning it in.

What’s important in life is to be something to the world, whatever that may be, whether it’s becoming a spouse (like Luann apparently wants) or becoming CEO or U.S. president (like Delta wants) or whatever else someone wants to do. We all have different life paths to follow, something that Luann will have to realize.

Nancy, dispensing parental wisdom; Luann absorbing it. Maybe.

Not commenting.

He didn’t let that stop him.

Got that right! A Yankee finding & marrying a Southerner for 50 years!

Well Luann, there are these receptors in your brain, hang around guys and they kick in and you have what is known as bonding. It presents as obsessive fixation.

yeah, for women finding ‘true love’ is often their greatest aspiration, sadly. You’re a horrible person if you say they should aspire to something else, but then classically women realize ‘how foolish they were’ when they’re divorced 20-30 years down the line.

Luann. ..You couldn’t have simply listened and then thanked your mom for her insight? Her answer might not apply to you now, but someday you will realize that there is more to see in the world than just your own point of view.

From my own experience, find a good friend … they are rare and worth cherishing. Next, work real hard at being someone you (and others) can like. From there, if you are successful, all else follows. You will be able to love and be loved.End of rant.

I bet Nancy had way more fun as a teenager than Luann does.

Is it just me, or does Luann have a better figure than Tiffany in today’s strip? She seems pretty ‘put together’.

tegm “This may sound trite, but I think it’s something people don’t really think about. Not to quote Freud, but I’ma quote Freud, he had said “It’s hard to find happiness within oneself, and it’s impossible to find it anywhere else.” "-“It is difficult to find happiness within oneself, but it is impossible to find it anywhere else.” -― Arthur Schopenhauer -Of course, Freud may have said it too — me not know — and I agree with the sentiment.

Nancy isn’t even going to pretend to care, and just phones in a non-response without even bothering to look up from her paperwork. I guess balancing her checkbook is more important than having an actual conversation with her daughter during a confusing time in her daughter’s life.

I think Luann is just trying to understand Delta’s choices. Hoping Mom has insights.

Seems like Jiminy Cricket singing the words to
“When You Wish Upon A Star” would be appropriate here.

Wisdom? Somebody thinks they’re wise? Love, like wisdom, requires facts. Information. Like the kind Mojitobaby has! That’s why we can have no “Deep” encounter that’s based on ignorance. (Mojitobaby— we need you.)
calvin825 about 12 years ago
How about the option of being someone’s true love? That’s accomplishing something truly amazing too! And how many amazing things happen when 2 true loves support each other?
Mordock999 about 12 years ago
BOTH.

I love when Nancy wears those glasses. Makes her look wise and pretty. Good combination for the babe that she is.
