Chef Red, you might as well forget the eggs…just fry up some bacon and pork sausages for Rover at your sidewalk cafe!

I use to live in Death Valley. Tourist would try to fry eggs on the sidewalks and parking lots all the time. What a mess!

Someone has tested this – don’t remember the result. I do remember that it’s possible to bake bread or cookies inside your car though. (Although I’m not sure I want to eat them… :-P)

On a metal object (such as the outside of a car) it is quite possible. A sidewalk is a bit porous and doesn’t conduct heat that well, yet, it still has been filmed.

Night-Gaunt: I have seen it hot enough to bubble! They use a lot more sand and gravel in asphalt than back in those days. When I was a kid, the bubbling was the test of when it wasn’t safe to walk on it barefooted.
