We’ll all miss the Otterloop family and their friends. (Seriously, Petey, what’s wrong with a waterproof backpack? Your comic books {for one thing} won’t get warped in humidity.)

Richard, are you eventually going to return like Michael J. Fox is to acting?

I read this with voices from Burger Bob’s cartoon: mom is mom; but the girl is the snarky one from that cartoon.

@ Richard Thompson, I will miss your strip but I understand why you have to do this. I have hade had friends with Parkinson’s and know what you are facing every day of your life. You are a very brave and talented man and thank you for keeping up the strip as long as you have. It must have been very difficult to do that. God Bless you and keep you and your family in peace and tranquility always.

Another great laugh, Richard. Incomparable characters and family dynamic. We’ll miss you. Fine interview the other day. Exciting that your creative process continues all the way through the creation of each strip.

Fabulous comic. Thank you so much for your work. There are things that enrich our lives and things that don’t. This comic has made my life a happier one.

Yes, only Madeline and Richard could conceive of all the details about that backpack and lunchbox as well as draw the children and their reactions so well. We will enjoy it while we can.

“It hauled the complete works of Charles Dickens up Mount Everest…” in a Kindle. I only discovered this strip a few years ago. Sad to see it going.

Mr. Thompson,
I am often behind in following events and news and only just learned of your affliction. I have enjoyed the quirkiness of your strip and the insights you have shown from a child’s (Alice’s) point of view. You will be missed.I have and will be praying for you. Not exactly for healing, but that God’s will be done in you life in all things.

I read this strip everyday, but not always all the comments. My last comment was the other day before the news. It saddens me greatly! I LOVE THIS STRIP! It’s so sweet and innocent and just adorable! I gather gocomics after Sept. won’t even be re-running the strips?
RICHARD MY VERY BEST WISHES FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! I PRAY THEY FIND A CURE SOON! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BRINGING LAUGHTER AND SMILES TO YOUR FANS. Hopefully one day you can return to us. YOU WILL BE MISSED, SIR!

@ Richard Thompson: Thank you for a weird but excellent comic. I wish you all the best. May I ask that you have the strip rerun from the beginning for us newbies, in a similar manner to “2 Cows and a Chicken?”

@Richard Thompsoni discovered Cul de Sac when i discovered Gocomics. i will admit that tour comic was not at the top of my cue, and like Dry i don’t comment often, but it is one that i read every day. my cue is long, and i don’t always finish it, but i made sure earlu on that it was high enough that i did see it every day.i am so sorry that i some\how missed it when you started it, however long ago. is is a wonderful take on the world of childhood that i have over the years lost.you do good work.<L.if i may, i would like to ask you to have Gocomics rerun your strip, from the beginning. i think that if you did that it would certainly move up in my cue.and then you could check in from time to time and say HI to us.i think that would be a fine thing.

I too have a friend with Parkinson’s; I see how she suffers from it. She remains in my prayers, and I’ll keep you there too, Richard. Thank you so much for your work! It’s been a daily source of enjoyment for me, and as a long-time comics fan, I’ve always kept Cul de Sac on the same “level of wonderful comic strip” as Charles Schulz’s Peanuts. Like that strip, yours will always be close to my heart!

When I first saw Mrs. Otterloop and Ms. Bliss I always thought they were wearing black lipgloss but I see now I see they don’t wear any lip makeup at all. You did good Mr. Thompson.

Richard, you are a fabulous person! The disease is not the person—you are. Take the time you need to fight the disease, but save your art. Your art is in your brain and I hope you will let us still see and share it from time to time. Your brain and heart are steady even if your hand is sometimes wobbly…
I love Alice and her frizzy hair (mine is frizzy, too.) and Petey with his internal life. I also love Skeeter (whom you let us use to fight West Nile Virus) and the marching tree reminding us to keep Arbor Day in our hearts all year. I feel like I know you personally. You and your art have touched our hearts and made us friends. Take care, dear friend!
