What, they didn’t think people would get it if they referred to the band by its name? I don’t even listen to Foreigner and I would have gotten the reference.
A year or so ago, one of the crocs from Pearls Before Swine ate the boy from Love Is. The girl in response, mounted the croc’s head, “Love Is… doing your own taxidermy”
When I say, “you kids” it doesn’t mean I think they’re literally children. I’d say it to any age group, mostly ironically.
But now you mention it, the fact that they do LOOK like children and have no genitals is part of what makes them unintentionally funny…
Not so much so that I read the saccharine strip, but enough to make them ripe for parody.
To me, “love” that involves no …um… stirrings of that nature is something you give to children, friends and puppies, not to a romantic (and already naked!) partner.
Not sure if the strip is still running, I always thought of the girl as Cathy (Cathy Guisewite) when she was a little kid. Never got into either strip. AAAACCKKK
@tinechambers, Yesterday you said I am always critical of this strip. Are you sure you haven’t confused me with someone else? A few times I have said I don’t get a joke, hoping someone would explain. Yesterday I said the strip has gone more in the direction of puns. Neither good nor bad—just an observation. I have always been a Brevity fan so not sure what you mean.

Um, how old are those kids? And shouldn’t they have some clothes on? I think somebody should call child protective services….

A ‘law-suit’ doesn’t count as clothing.

Titles are not copyrightable so there’s no case on either side. Unless someone has it trademarked. Then there’d be a case.

Thanks, tiny dancer. I thought they looked familiar, but couldn’t connect.
Brevity has really taken a new direction lately. I’m sure the people here who think puns are the highest form of humor are really enjoying it.

Two years ago, the comic strip Zits did a one-week Love Is parody featuring Jeremy and his girl friend as the two (always naked) characters.
