I’d agree with runar. Consider this: brain cells are incredibly “expensive” to run—“Although the brain represents only 2% of the body weight, it receives 15% of the cardiac output, 20% of total body oxygen consumption, and 25% of total body glucose utilization.” (http://www.acnp.org/g4/gn401000064/ch064.html) More, these supplies cannot be interrupted for long at all without the brain cells dying.

If we did only use 10%, we would be a lot more efficient if we just got rid of 80 or 90%, and we’d lose nothing important.
