Larry the Croc: Hullooo zeeba neighba. Leesten. Crocs start barber shop. Want haircut? Zebra: I don't think I'd feel comfortable with your barber. Larry the croc: Whuh wrong wid barber? Guy juss lack people skills.
Well, at least it’s not Mr. Smee in the Disney version of “Peter Pan”: he thought he decapitated Captain Hook when about to shave him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKWy_bwygJ0
One, probably apocryphal, tale is that barbers used to do bleeding (back when that was the cure for many an ailment) and the red symbolized blood running down a pale arm.
Technically, it’s a red, blue and white thingy. (Barbers used to also perform surgery, perhaps because they had the sharpest cutting tools, and the red represents blood.)
The first croc looks like he’s trying to impress Zeeba with the size of his pole. The second one looks like he hates chairs.÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷Sing along with Sherlock: “Kookie, Kookie, lend me your comb…”
Back in the day barbers also did surgery, and they would hang their rags outside to advertise their business. The pole developed as a less threatening symbol. Or so I’ve heard.
If I remember correctly, the barber pole had its origins from way back when barbers would also do blood-letting. The red stripe represented the blood and the white stripe represented the bandage. Somewhere, someone got the idea that making it turn would be eye-catching as well.

A haircut from a guy without thumbs? That’s problematic. I’m a little disappointed that someone made the Sweeney Todd joke before me.

Zeeba Neighba is not in need of a haircut. Especially not from a psychotic Croc. Larry, just take your barber pole and stick it somewhere else….

He’s an Old West Barber, when he’s not cutting hair he works as a dentist and pulls teeth.
Or maybe he’s in it for the insurance money. Make him your sole beneficary and he makes he collects.

It would be a close shave. One day I want to see the croc succeed, maybe against a visiting Zebra.

Ceci n’est pas une coiffeur – c’est une bûcheron.
What a treacherous image.
