I’m a retired soccer referee, do you think they’ll call me ? I’m as qualified as these scabs the NFL wants to bring in.

The N.F.L is being extremely petty with its officials. A billion dollar industry playing hardball with their officials. Restricting pay increases, cutting benefits, all in the name of what? Every game is critical and botched calls will only be amplified.

The sad part is that every NFL owner is a corporate welfare queen who could triple the officials’ pay out of the spare change in his couch.

While we may denigrate the officials as blind, lazy or biased, the are an integral part of the game. They insure the safety of the players, the flow of the game, the enforcement of the rules, and the enjoyment of the game – not necessarily in that order. The more experienced the official, the less intrusive he/she is and the more astute in making a correct decision. This very experience lends itself to our enjoyment of the game or match. For the NFL to treat professional referees like serfs and with such disrespect , only shows that the NFL is more interested in making money than in assisting the people who are making them that money.I would challenge Roger Godell , the Owners, or any or their minions to officiate one professional game. I guarantee that if they did, they will realize that they don’t know anything about the game of football.Life seen from the center of the field is totally different than life seen from the skybox.

The really sad part is that the NFL is the only major team sport that does not have regularly employed officials; they’re all weekend warriors who have other jobs. However, preparing for the games takes up all the time they would otherwise use for their “regular” jobs; so the NFL may as well hire regular officials.

You do know that it’s a lockout (and therefore initiated by the NFL) and not a strike (which would be initiated by the refs), right?

Of course not. You’re too busy with that detailed visual inspection of your colon.
