In the 60s and 70s it was “oh ignore it, he’s only doing it for attention, if you don’t respond he’ll stop.” Guess what? That doesn’t work. But that was before the days when kids came to school packing heat. “They’re just kids” doesn’t cut it anymore.
…i have so often removed my foot from my mouth simply in order to insert the other one even more deeply, that i have pretty much quit talking to new aquaintances for most of a first meeting…it seems to be a nervous habit, once i get to know them better, the foot in mouth symptoms seem to subside…
The ego can write checks the butt can’t cash… but at least there will be witnesses and a teacher in gym class so it won’t be TOO easy to get a beating without him getting caught. ;-)
There were a couple of bullies I was aware of when I was in Junior High School. They went off my radar for a few years and then came back on when I heard they were chasing some one down one of our narrow New England roads and wound up going full bore into a tree next to the road. The car went up the tree nearly twelve feet and put a huge scar on it. They were both killed instantly, as these were the years when seat belts hadn’t even been invented yet. Over the years the tree began to die. Eventually it was cut down, and the stump was removed as well. The only evidence of any of this remains soley in memory. I realized this when I drove past the place when I went back to my 50th High School reunion and drove about the town where I was raised.

I saw a show on tv the other night, and one guy with slick hair kept trying to bully the other guy. They called it a debate.

Remember that most of this strip is seen through Calvin’s eyes. The bully may not be as big and threatening in real life.

When in sixth grade a guy told me to ‘shut up’, I said, ‘Make me’. He did. It was a lesson well learned.

I wasn’t really bullied in school, but was at the bottom of the pecking order. Have outlived most of them!
