Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for August 21, 2012

Transcript:
Mom: Come on, Petey! You can do it! Petey: Okay, okay- Petey: Ha. Mom: YAY! Adult swim Mom: You just set your brother back four years. Alice: So now were even.
I just read the notice about Mr. Thompson’s retirement. Well, that took the chrome off of today. Mr. Thompson, you will be greatly missed, Cul de Sac is one of the greatest strips of all time. Thank you for creating it, you have brought me a great deal of pleasure over the last few years. I wanted you to know how much you are appreceated.
Many municipal pools have short periods during the day, when kids have to get out of the pool, so the adults can use it, which is usually announced by the lifeguard blowing her whistle, and announcing "ADULT SWIM, as Alice did,
It freaked the Petey out because Alice was loud and abrupt, something the Petey tries very hard to avoid. Living with Alice, you’d think he’d be used to it. Then again, maybe that’s why he is the way he is.
Mr. Thompson, best of luck to you in your endeavors for life. Please know that the effect your talent has had on so many should somehow create a kharma-like balance to assist in your ongoing struggle against Parkinson’s. When (not if) you return to the comic pages, we will be waiting. Peace.
Mr. Thompson, we will miss you. We will miss the wonderful people you created and told us stories about. Petey always makes me think of my precious son, 34 years old now, when he was young — and in a very happy, warm, pleasant way. I am positive the rich characters you’ve drawn, and the loving way you’ve drawn them (literally as well as figuratively) have impacted others in similarly meaningful ways that touch their hearts and souls. That’s a rare gift. Thank you for sharing it with us as long as you have. Please take good care of yourself.
I e-mailed gocomics yesterday about continuing the strip in reruns. Today I got this response:Hello,
We’re also very sorry about this turn of events and wish Mr. Thompson the best as he continues the fight against Parkinson’s. We do plan on running Cul de Sac in classic mode.
Sincerely,GoComics SupportSo, looks like we can contiue to enjoy!
Oh Richard, I just read your Q & A and I just can’t stop the tears. I’m a comic fan of over fifty years & CdS is one of my all time favorites. We will miss you so much. God bless.
I have always seen my favorite comicsdisappear while the lame ones go on forever, but Cul de Sac is particularly sad because illness is involved in the demise. I wish you the best and thank you for introducing us to the Otterloops.

Wicked, Alice, wicked. Poor Petey will be in a state of shock for the rest of the week, at least!

Having said that, I must point out that you are wrong about Badgers. Badgers love waffles, and we adore pancakes, especially with boysenberry syrup.

When is the last day?

Okay, maybe I don’t go to the beach enough. I have no idea what Alice means by “adult swim”, or why this freaks Petey out.
Maybe I should stop having favorite strips. The cartoonists always retire. Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes, now this.

Cul de Sac is one of the few truly “funny” strips, I will miss it very much. Take care of yourself Mr. Thompson, and thanks.

OH, NO! I stated reading this strip back in 2007! It was the replacement for another outgoing strip called Preteena.
