Yes, the strip suddenly changes from handwritten text to typed text and it seems like almost no one notices it!

What happened to Mrs. Mallett’s handwritten font???? I thought it was the best! Drop this computer serif font now.

Today’s “Pearls…” had cyclist Jeff become Jef to reduce weight.

What’s with the Cal shirt? Is Mallett rubbing in their loss to Nevada or am I missing something obvious?

Got it. Pastis graduated from Cal. Should’ve known.

These comic strip “wars” are helping me to understand male bonding.

I think the font thing is a dig at Pastis’ apparent use of a typed cartoon font for his strips. If you look really close at a PBS strip, all the examples of a given letter are exactly alike. Even the Zeeba’s seem to have their own typed font.

OK so after reading both comics – as I do daily, I have to wonder if each artist sent the other the drawings and had the other fill in the dialog.

This must be a very gentlemanly war – three weeks’ notice of all maneuvers (or manoeuvres if you speak English).

If I recall, Jef’s wife does the lettering normally. I hope she’s okay.

I knew before I even started reading that this was gonna’ riff on Pearls. Not a bad pun, but it really isn’t Frazz.
