Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling The Education of Louis Mother: Hi, Louis! Myron's upstairs -- he's really looking forward to this. You have entered an ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE, in which things seem the same as in your own, yet are different in subtle and ineffably disturbing ways. You have embarked on the... SLEEPOVER Myron: My mom says we can watch "Rise of the Planet of the Apes"! It's PG-13. Louis: Cool. A universe in which you never quite know what time it is, as there seem to be no clocks. Strange brands of foods you haven't even seen on television commercials. Hunt's A similar and familiar mom, yet her attempt to take on the role seems stilted and alien. Mother: Would you like more chips? A dad whose aloofness seems somehow less benign than yours. Father: Can Cono EVER make a productive out? And the intensely weird vibe between the mom and dad. Father: We were late last time too. Mother: Louis and Myron, help yourselves to dessert. Even watching TV can seem otherworldly, simply because it's framed by other stuff. But the difference that causes the greatest disorientation is... Louis: HA! Play it again! Myron: HAHA ...THE BIG SISTER! Sister: Could you guys hold it down? I'm talking on the phone! A 15-hour foray into a parallel dimension, congruent to your reality, but oddly different. Myron: By the way, sorry...that air mattress has a slow leak...

Methinks Louis is pondering femininity in general, and the big sister in particular…it is an awkward phase for the male, beginning from around ages 12 or 13, all the way up until they turn 78. Then it’s Matlock, 24/7.

Very nice, but what does, “Can Cano ever make a productive out?” mean?

Agreed, the big sister is at the crux of Lewis’s existential crisis.

I can really relate to this episode! It was weird to visit friends and find a father who speaks to his kids, people who eat unknown foods (pawpaws!), and a mother whos said, “The boys make me add extra chocolate chips to the cookie mix”! You can make your mother do things?

A productive out is where one drives in a run in the course of making an out, or at the least, advances a baserunner.
