Actually, Johnny Depp’s version was much truer to the book. There was a very dark side to Willy Wonka that did not show up in Gene Wilder’s version.
Also Gene Wilder was better in “The Producers” and “Blazing Saddles” than in “Young Frankenstein”. ( Although not by much)
I like “Start the Revolution Without Me” the best of GeneWilder’s comedic movies. Brilliant! (Not that he isn’t always.) I like “The Frisco Kid” best of all his work.
“The Frisco Kid” and “Stir Crazy” were excellent, also. I guess I pretty much enjoyed anything he ever did, especially the Mel Brooks stuff.
“Young Frankenstein” is still one of the funniest movies ever! “Willy Wonka” always creeped me out!
