Will the Aliens come down with some insidious Earth-library infection and die off before the librarian even suspects anything is amiss? Lio! Control your imagination!
That’s actually the spoken intro to the ’53 movie (far better than the T. Cruise remake), but it is similar to the opening lines in the book. Check out the early movie version, more-than decent special effects, good script, quite scary in places.
Wait, stop, hold it right there now! All this talk about the movie versions. No, no, no! If you haven’t already heard it you MUST find a copy of the 1978 Jeff Wayne musical verswion of War of the Worlds. It’s from Columbia, you can find it on i-Tunes. It is remarkable. There is supposed to be a 2012 remake available, but I haven’t heard it. I strongly recommned the 1978 version, just for the sound effects alone! Ulla!
Sir Richard Burton as the journalist. Gary Osborne (from Elton John fame) did most of the lyrics. Neither movie even comes close, they don’t compare.
Thanks Lio! Now I’ll have War of the Worlds running through my head all day! Ulla!
While I agree the book IS better than the films, let’s hope for the librarian’s sake the Common Cold is deadly to the Martians. I love the 1950s film version.
@CDWARD…that is one of my favorite movies! What a satire! Also, this is one of my favorite books. Glad to see that Lio is reading. Most boys his age don’t. I think Lio is one of those nerdy geniuses who will invent something that changes the world and makes him a billionaire.

The H.G.Wells original book is light years better than any of the films.

The librarian looks suspiciously like Mrs Olsen’s sister, right down to the glasses…you all DO follow Frazz, right??

I think someone’s going to start playing “Indian Love Call” by Nelson Eddy. That’ll take care of any Martians.

WAY too skinny for Mrs. Olsen! The scowl is insufficient as well. And where’s her cup of coffee??

“I think it’s just Ishy in disguise…”.That inspires me to guess that Moby Dick will shortly be making an appearance this week…

Looks like the logical place to file “Aliens” to me.
