Still Da Man clearly feels very passionately about Dick Locher. .People don’t want him to jump to Locher’s defense? Then don’t trash Locher to begin with. You poke a stick into a tiger cage, you’re gonna get an angry tiger..Why Mr. Locher is still an issue at this point is beyond me. Whatever you might think about his later work, his early work on the strip was quite good. But good or bad, early or late, it’s ALL in the past. There’s no point dredging it up just to make snarky comments..If Still Da Man’s hateful and obnoxious (and I’m not granting that he is), it’s because he’s being deliberately provoked..I vote against his leaving the group.

since they got a call from Sam saying he had a meeting set up with Phishface at the aquarium, why didn’t they just go straight there?

Still Da Man’s posts are certainly obnoxious. I can’t imagine his reasons for posting the way he does. A little courtesy and consideration of others would be appreciated.

But meanwhile back to Dick Tracy: I think that word balloon in the last panel is just a reference to the Jackie Gleason show and not the bartender calling out a code to some goon. But we’ll see tomorrow.

How does one join the yahoo! group? I had submitted a request to Beau Kaelin ages ago & got no reply. I can read the group’s comments but can’t access some of the “group only” artwork attachments, nor can I post.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Posting comments here is a mite constricting.

In the United States of America we have this law and document called the Constitution. We, the people, are granted certain rights. One of the basic right is the freedom of speech. In that we are assured that we can think and believe what we want as long as it does no harm to others.

The argument and bickering on this site and the suggestion that someone leave just because they believe different than most of the rest of the group is WRONG.

If you do not agree with the person in question then do not read the comments from that person. If you are going to use this setting as your platform to bash another person beliefs then maybe you should be the one leaving this board.

I do not comment often but I do read daily what has been said. In most cases you all express your opinions. That is all this person is doing. Does he not deserve the same chance you do?

I may and often do not agree with some of the things said here but I have never bashed the person for what they have said. If I feel strongly enough about a comment I will post my own. Some people will agree and others may not. That is OK…

I VOTE this entire bashing of each other end and we go on and enjoy the story as it is being presented to us.

Special note to Steven about those First Amendment rights: They’re not absolute. You have the right to publish, on your own site, whatever you wish. If you’re on somebody else’s site, which all of us here are presently on someone else’s site, we become subject to the rules of the site owner. I don’t know if SDM has run afoul of the site rules yet, which would be reportable and a banning offense.Some trolls are real careful to stay just this side of being banned, others flat out don’t care and do anything to enrage everybody.

Fun to see more Gleason references. Personally, I think it’s a signal for the bad guys.

I have no problem with anyone defending or bashing the works of Lochner. What I found to be out right obnoxious was comments on how other people post. Ie. the comments SDM made about Rene Tray’s one word posts. Rene never (to my knowledge) made ANY remakes about Lochner’s time. Nor did he “poke the tiger”. Just got abused for being a “man of few words”. Just my opinion.

I kept out of the bickering until today. Like you I read all the comments and do not always agree with some of them. I also believe in the first amendment rights. However, if you ask me a direct question you get a direct answer. Which is what SDM did when he asked “We the People” to vote on this nonsense and fighting. I’m sticking with A!

If Matt loses the animated gifs and Tim drops his countdown (which I think he has, thank you, Tim!), then they both can stay! : -)

I also have tried joining the Yahoo group multiple times over the last (decade?). I can read but not post, which often forces deeper discussions to this board.

A lot of posters here remember when Mattie would launch a non-stop tirade against anyone who criticized Locher. I guess he thought that Locher would be instrumental in his replacement, should he retire. Mattie would toot Locher’s horn (take that any way you want) at every opportunity. Some of us joked that Mattie set up shop under Locher’s desk. Others didn’t think it was a joke at all. Mattie referred to his special relationship with Locher that other “unimportant” people didn’t enjoy. One poster I knew, went back and printed several of his rants and threats (yes, you read that right) and sent them to TMS to show them what a raving lunatic looks like. That might have done some good, as the torch never got passed on to him. This is why he has such disdain for the current team. It reminds me of Wily Coyote after he muffed a shot at the Roadrunner.

I can remember when the Lochner bashing on this board was incredibly intense. Each day was a litany of criticism. Like a old athlete, Lochner held on way past his prime. While most of the criticism was justified, a lot of it was just piling on, IMO. I was not a saint either.

I follow Mandrake the Magician, an obscure, declining title mostly out of respect to Fred Fredericks, an 82-year old disciple of Lee Falk, who does the writting and illustration. His art is way past his prime, almost laughable by todays standards, but I still go there as homage to days gone by, and when Fred goes, it could be curtains for the tiny franchise.

It’s been a while, hasn’t it. The days of the Pig on Wheels and the Flood that sank the “Mighty Morphin Power Rambler” are long gone. Locher’s “Tracy”, cowering behind the bushes while criminals ran the strip are a memory— let’s leave it that way.

Tsull, it wasn’t you I’m referring to. Not unless you’ve got multiple personalities and you’re posting under multiple names. One reason I suspect that SDM leaving doesn’t mean he’s gone, only that sock-puppet is gone. Another will appear, then another after that.

It’s been a while since I posted this frequently on Tracy. Not since the Locher days.

Now on to another subject, trolling. SDM is a troll. I make this as a statement of fact and not as an opinion. Read the link I put up yesterday defining the term. Maybe it is appropriate that we have someone trolling during the Phishface story, since another definition of the term is a method of fishing where one or more fishing lines, baited with lures or bait fish, are drawn through the water. Well, SDM has definitely put out his bait and the the forum is in a feeding frenzy, just as SDM intended all along. He has also found himself a tsull2121 and it’s a WOPPER. SDM is carefully playing his line letting out a bit of slack and then reeling in as the tsull2121 takes the bait.I voted to have SDM removed from the forum through self exile. I didn’t do this because I disagree with SDM’s opinion, or because I agree with tsull2121. I didn’t do it as an attack on anyone’s freedom of speech. I did it because I HATE TROLLS!. OK, it is out, I am a Troll bigot.That said, I am willing to try and reform myself. I will make an attempt to not respond to any taunts or posts made by any Troll on this forum. I ask that others on this forum do the same, in an effort to help me reform. Maybe that old advice from my parents will come in handy, “Just ignore him, and sooner or later he will get tired of it and go away.” I never had a lot of luck with that advice, but I am willing to give it another go with your help.

Love the Jackie Gleason shout-outs. I was never a fan of his, but his “Joe the Bartender” routines were classic bits of comedy, and Frank Fontaine’s Crazy Guggenheim has to be one of TV’s most memorable characters. But as part of Gleason’s sketch comedy show, they’re almost forgotten.

For the record: I followed back a couple of days. This thing between Tsull and Stilltheman gets old fast. Hard to tell from just a few days, but the balance of posters that I see says Tsull wins and SDM leaves—- if he keeps his word.

I haven’t been able to reliably follow these comments from day to day, sometimes the ads on this site force me to shut down Javascript. When that happens, I can see the comics but not the comments. Peace reigns though, no ads.

Tarry, I have Firefox but I don’t use it much. I’m one of those oddballs that actually uses Opera. There may be an adblocker for it, but right now it’s just easier to shut off Javascript when the ads get too annoying. Of course I know becoming a supporter gets rid of the ads too, but if I do that I have to start supporting half a dozen sites. That gets expensive rather fast.

I traded a few barbs with SDM myself, but I tried to use gentle humor and avoid unkind words. I wish we could all get back to discussing the strip, and related subjects, in the spirit of fun and the common interests that we have. Peace, already!

Ahhh, the Stuka. Who can forget? Suspended by one wire, attached to the antenna which is mounted on the canopy. The real plane at the Science and Industry museum is suspended by three wires, two are in the fuselage forward of the canopy and the third is attached to the tail.
