I’m thinking this isn’t boding well. Janis was robbed of helping to plan and having any input into their only child’s wedding. She handled it well, for now. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Having been in that situation a few years ago…it hurts.
I like the Janis/Arlo picture here. Don’t know if Arlo is aware of the wedding at this point, or maybe he is and is just giving Janis ‘space’ to absorb it all. They are there for each other.
Some people jsut don’t care for a big to do over anything. We tried to get my m-i-l to give imput, but she didn’t give a flying fudge. My parents ended up setting up the rehearseal dinner (usually the groom’s family’s job) AND once his family found out they would have to be in town the day before the wedding (since his sister was in it) all of them decided to leave right after the ceremony and drive 10+ hours back home instead of staying for the reception, o/c they didn’t tell us that until AFTER we’d given the final count to the recpetion hall. His mom and sister didn’t even have the excuse of an extra night at a hotel room costing too much, because they were staying at a realtive’s house.
I’m betting that Arlo has a talk with the ‘happy couple’ before they do irreparable damage to the relationship with Janis. He’s always got her back (no pun intended). :-)
I get the feeling that right mow she is feeling left out of her sons wedding. My fiance` had the same problem with her mom-in-law on her wedding to her ex. It’s the bride and grooms big day. Let them have it their way. My fiance` has made plans with me for our wedding in December, we have had several ideas from friends and family. I am sorry, but it is our wedding not anyone else’s.
Mary Lou isn’t just controlling the wedding, she’s a passive-aggressive bridezilla. She directs her fiance to send for his parents, then springs this on them, gives them no time to adjust to the idea, tells them they’re only welcome as spectators, then refuses Janis’s gracious offer (and desire) to help, instead sending her to buy clothes more in keeping with Mary Lou’s expectations and pretending she’s giving Janis a TREAT by doing so.
I think Janis is disappointed. On some level, I can understand Mary Lou’s desire to have the wedding she wants, without interference from a future MIL. But she also doesn’t seem to appreciate the fact that this is A&J’s only child. They don’t have a daughter of their own to indulge a big wedding on. So, Janis has the right to feel disappointed. It all was done rather sneakily, too.
I think Janis is just saying good bye to her little boy …………….. and maybe thinking about how she will ever find the right outfit by tomorrow, and maybe wishing that hurricane ashore to slow everything down.
I think Janis is realizing that her son’s life is beginning without her involvement. Plus everything is happening so fast.Gene hasn’t graduated and they’re getting married this week.No time to take it all in.That’s why she is out there..PS, I do hope this isn’t the end of A&J, I just can’t take another thing I enjoy coming to a close.Say it ain’t so JJ, say it ain’t so!

Don’t make it about yourself, Janis. It’s someone else’s moment.

After all these years, Arlo knows the signs, and an ice cold river of fear just began running down his spine.

Wind is blowing. Arlo is on the dock. I think they will end up going for a good sail. Perfect time for it.

I know that scene; I’ve seen it with my wife. It’s “something is wrong, and I know it’s not my fault.”
