Kids stop talking to your grandma like that!

In response to s dv’s comment about spanking yesterday:

I too was spanked as a child, I have no emotional scarring because of it. Some of the spankings I now find funny. I agree that it is possible to raise a good kid without corporal punishment but I have seen too many children who completely disrespect their parents.

I use it as a last resort after time outs have been given and favorite items have been taken away and extra chores have been handed out. It also depends on the severity of the infraction. When I do it, I make sure I’m not too emotional and I’m very controlled unlike my parents were.

I refuse to allow my children to be disrespectful and out of control. What works for some doesn’t work for others and I can respect different opinions and methods.

It’s important that they always kind of suspect that if they annoy you enough, you might actually twist off and murder them.
