That is a genuinely interesting question, but difficult to verify. I have heard that our ability to visualize is affected by the quality of our eyesight.
The best way to develop (or lose) an accent, is to record your voice. To perfect the accent when learning a language (or even a dialect for a theatrical) the best method is immersion i.e. speaking only with those who naturally speak in the way you wish.
The only exception to that is learning to speak a very brief item when no responses or continuation will be required.

Noone ever speaks with an accent themselves, it’s other people that have an accent.

Little-known fact: North-western Minnesotans do not have an accent, as long as you are from there. ;-)
