When I was a kid, their was a copse of lilacs between our house and the house behind us. I was 8 at the time and I would sit among them and breath in the fragrance. I visited that copse recently and it’s still there, but my hidey hole must have shrunk… Yeah, that’s it.

Last panel is classic - and a bit sad.

I had a large cedar tree that my cousin and I would crawl under and play “house” and stuff. Then it got cut back and it was never the same…

All my old hiding places are long gone. I’ve been reduced to wearing thick sunglasses.

There was a huge forsythia bush in our neighbor’s yard that all the kids used just like this. It’s not there anymore.

One of my favorite fishing spots was a creek in the mountains, flowing down through the pines and miles from anywhere - just a great place, nothing but open forest and logging roads. Went there with my dad when I was young and fished it for years as an adult. Unfortunately (and we would never have believed it would happen), for some years now, there are expensive houses along the upper banks - vacation homes. My dad never saw that, thank God - he was already gone. At least I still have the memories…

Crikey! Alice isn’t in the Bush, it’s in the Outback! ‘Struth, you’re miles and miles from any wilderness, pristine or otherwise, once you’re back o’ Bourke. It’s the Dead Heart, Mate.

@Eric, I planted a shrub to hide my hose bibb (with vacuum breaker and y fitting (ugly) but now I get ant bites often when I go there and the switch for the underwater pool light is now covered as well. I’d rather have it civilized (although as a Libra, I appreciate Alice’s point of view as well).
