I grew up drinking whole milk that we got from our own cows on the farm. The cream of the milk would come up to the top as it set for awhile in the refrigerator, so we would shake the jar of milk before pouring it into our glasses to drink it.
I remember at least once skimming the cream off the milk, putting it into another jar, and (when we had enough) shaking it to make some homemade butter.
